July 14, 1951 ~ April 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Peter Hintz, who left us peacefully on April 24, 2025, in his home and surrounded by family. Born on July 14, 1951, Jim lived a full and vibrant life, marked by love, laughter, and cherished memories.
James married the love of his life, Carol Elaine Bennett, on September 1, 1973. Together, they built a strong and loving family that will carry on his legacy. He was a proud father to four wonderful children and especially delighted to be a grandfather to his two beloved granddaughters: Jason (Carrie: Ronin and Ryder), and daughter Taylor (Colton), Aaron and daughter Areya, Carmen (Andrew), and Derek (Devon). He also embraced his role as a grandfather to a grand-bunny and six grand-puppies, whom he affectionately tolerated.
Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Genevieve (Deck), as well as his treasured siblings Kathy and Bob; James is survived by his devoted sister, Audrey (Pete), who shared countless joyful moments throughout the years. Many nieces and nephews and “adopted” family members will forever remember his laughter and light.
Jim had an unwavering spirit and a zest for life that was evident in his many passions. He was a loyal fan of his Tigers and the Montreal Canadians and could often be found cheering for his teams with friends and family especially when they were beating the Oilers. His love for snooker and kayaking reflected his adventurous spirit, while riding bikes brought him closer to nature and his loved ones.
Spending time with family and friends was paramount to Jimbo, and he treasured every barbeque, camping trip, and gathering filled with laughter and faith, as long as you walked quietly and laughed with your inside voice. His infectious smile and warm heart touched everyone he met, creating a legacy of kindness and love that will not be forgotten.
Central to Jim’s life was his deep and abiding faith in God, which led him through life’s challenges and triumphs and ultimately guided him home. Through his actions and words, he reflected the love and compassion that his faith inspired within him. Jim’s involvement with his men’s group, That Man is You and his connection to Holy Family Parish, gave him the support and guidance that he held close for his final journey.
As we celebrate the life of James Peter Hintz, we take comfort in the many beautiful memories he has gifted us. May his spirit continue to inspire us to embrace life fully, cherish our loved ones, and create lasting memories together. Rest in peace, Daddy-o. You will be profoundly missed but always remembered.
Prayers and memories will be shared at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:50 a.m. with a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall. Those wishing to join the family virtually and experience both Prayers and Funeral Mass are invited to watch via live-stream by connecting to YouTube and searching: Medicine Hat Holy Family Parish and selecting the live video link.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name may be made directly to St. Vincent de Paul Society via Holy Family Parish or to a charity of your choosing.

My heart is heavy with the loss of Jim. I never saw him without a smile. Carol you and Jim showed all you met what true love was about! God created two Angels on Earth- you guys! I feel strongly the angels arms carried him to our Saviour. Memories in the heart remain always, and I am sure his legacy lives within family, yourself Carol and all who greeted him! The rain that falls on your cheek is him saying “ I understand”, thunder is but him laughing with you all. Gentle breezes is him gently wrapping his arms around you. In every season he walks beside you. God needed an angel thus calling him home.
I hope you Carol and family find comfort in knowing we care, we pray with you to stay strong. Love truly never ends!
May God Bless you all and may you find comfort in knowing he now is set free from pain or suffering.
God bless you all!
