With sadness, the family of the late Karen Western of Medicine Hat, announce her passing which occurred on Friday, November 3, 2006 at the age of 45 years. Karen was born on April 2, 1961 in Medicine Hat, a daughter to Donald and Joyce Western. She was raised and educated in Richmound, Sask. Karen worked in various towns before settling in Empress, Alberta in 1982, where she was employed at the hotel until 1995. She then started Karen's Konvenience Store which she operated until May of 2006, before moving to Medicine Hat. Karen enjoyed her family and visiting with them. She will be remembered as one who appreciated the simple things in life. Karen will be cherished in the hearts of her parents, Donald and Joyce Western; her brothers, Doug Western and his son, Josh; and Earl (Kathy) Western and their children Rachael and Lauryn. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Karen was predeceased by her grandparents. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church, 3785 - 13th Avenue S.E. on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Karen's name may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 124, 430 - 6th Avenue S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 2S8.
