Mrs. Jean Louise Babitzke of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Monday, May 1, 2006 at the age of 63 years. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Ken (Val) Olson of Medicine Hat, Sharon McArady of Medicine Hat, Rodney Babitzke of British Columbia and Tresa (Bill) Godin of Red Deer; eight grandchildren, Tyrel, Michael, Chrystina, Chelsy, Brandy, Josh, Camellia, Matthew as well as one great-granddaughter, Kayla. Jean is also survived by one brother, George (Delores) Olson; one sister, Shirley Harris; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Olson, numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Gladys Lattery, Gerhard Geissler and Bob and Betty Helmer of the Elks Club. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Ruth Olson, one brother, Leonard Olson and one brother-in-law, Darrell Harris. Jean was born at Russell, Manitoba on June 16, 1942. She was married on June 27, 1959, and moved to Medicine Hat in 1972. She worked as a cook until she was forced to retire in 1996 due to poor health. Jean was often found donating her time to the Salvation Army's many charitable causes. She was an honorary member of the Elks and was a member of the Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, May 4, 2006, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 5, 2006, at 3:30 P.M. with Major Brad Smith officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Salvation Army, 164 Stratton Way S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1B 3R3.
