January 30, 1953 - December 22, 2025
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Peggy Bengert, on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the age of 72. Peggy will be forever loved and deeply missed by her husband of 51 years, Jim; daughter, Christina (Willie) Glasgo and son, James Bengert. The lights of her life, her grandchildren: Olivia, Max, Wyatt, and Jordyn will miss her terribly. Peggy is also survived by her brother, Wayne (Melanie) Liboiron and her sister, Diana (Paul) Norris along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Peggy was born in Medicine Hat on January 30, 1953. She attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School, St. Mary’s Junior High School and McCoy High School. She later attended SAIT in Calgary where she studied hairdressing. Although she chose a different career path, Peggy spent much of her working life helping to establish the casino in Medicine Hat. She played an integral role in its success and formed many lasting friendships with colleagues during that time.
Peggy was passionate in all that she did, but her involvement in the theatre community stood above all else. Her love for live theatre was a constant throughout her life, and she contributed to every facet of the art form, working backstage, performing onstage, and most especially, directing. The productions she directed were consistently well received and many considered her the finest director the community had ever known. Her passion for theatre extended to her family, with her husband and children each becoming involved in their own way.
Peggy met the love of her life, Jim, at a cabaret at the Park Lane in September of 1973. Their connection was immediate, and they became engaged just two months later at the Ming Tree. Peggy and Jim were married on July 6, 1974. They welcomed their daughter, Christina, on August 22, 1979, and their son, James, on June 26, 1982. Peggy’s children were the greatest joy of her life, and family trips, gatherings and celebrations filled their home. While she loved being a mother, her favourite role was being a grandmother. Olivia, her “Angel Bug,” was the first, followed by Wyatt, Max and most recently, Jordyn.
Peggy had a true zest for life, with a special love for golfing, especially when it involved friendly bets and rounds with her grandsons. Living in Elkwater filled her soul and brought her great joy. Peggy and Jim also spent 17 winters in Roswell, New Mexico, where they escaped the cold and soaked up the sunshine. During their time there, they formed many lasting friendships and grew to love the community deeply.
Anyone who met Peggy knew her love for life and her infectious laugh could light up a room. Her jokes would put a smile on anyone’s face. She touched the lives of so many, and she will be deeply missed. As her favorite song lyrics remind us, “What a Wonderful World.”
A celebration of her life will be held at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Her daughter will deliver a eulogy before mass at 2:45 p.m., with the mass beginning at 3:00 p.m. All of Peggy’s relatives are invited to meet in the Faith Room at Holy Family prior to walking in together at 2:40 p.m. Following the Mass, stories and laughter will continue through a time of fellowship at the Higdon Hall, 2055 - 21 Ave SE, Medicine Hat.
Funeral Mass will be live-streamed. Those who cannot attend but wish to experience the celebrations may visit the following link: https://cooksouthland.com/bengert

Dear Jim, James, Christina, Will and all of Peggy's Family,
So sorry to learn of Peggy's death. My thoughts, condolences and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
She was such an energetic person with a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh and a commitment to the people who were a part of her life. She truly reflected the Gospel call to love.
Her skills in leadership, direction, and as a producer were evident in Medicine Hat Musical Theatre's "The Sound of Music" and "Joseph and the Amazing Colored Dream Coat!" as well as "The Diary of Adam and Eve" for St. Mary's Parish.
I am Blessed to have known her and been a small part of her big life.
Sorry I can't join you for her funeral because of a family situation but will be with you in prayer and laughter! I will also offer a Mass for her.
May the memories and stories you share and are shared with you bring you comfort and peace as you grieve.
Eternal Rest grant unto her, Lord; may she Rest in Peace.
Fr. Greg

Dear Jim, Christina, James and family,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in the death of a “ one of a kind woman”. I have such fond memories of Peggy whether sharing coffee when Sarah and Tina were very young or later agreeing that “they were Not going to a dance at Crescent Heights High School”! She put her whole self into everything she was involved in and always with determination. Eternal rest grant unto her and may perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Dear Jim, Jamsey and Tina,
During my developing years, I had the privilege to call her Auntie Peggy. I fondly remember nights by the fire, playing in the dirt on May long weekend. And later, long nights of cards at the cabin in Elkwater.
Many super club events going long into the night at both our homes in Ross Glen. I remember the piano that magically played music. The basement where there was the best playroom and room for hide and seek. I remember watching all of the Ernest movies staring at the super cool bar right in the family room. Tina had the best princess bed of all the girls I knew. I remember getting to go through a black out with Tina and James at my house. There wasn’t room to be afraid because of the continuous joy and laughter. This humour shared by her children is a testament to the love, laughter and celebration that Peggy lived life with.
I pray for all of you at this time that you feel His peace and love that goes beyond our understanding.

Dear Jim, Tina, and James…it is so hard to write words like this about a person we know only as a vibrant, sassy, passionate, and always laughing light on this earth. This is a bit of shocking news for us to get our heads around. We are in BC for Christmas and New Years and will not be there to hug you in person. Please know that we and many others will be holding you all in our hearts today. We will miss our Peggy, but will always hear her laugh! Dar and Ken
