It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marie Sylvia Merrick announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Home - Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the age of 81 years. Marie was born on a farmstead near Esme, SK., on May 29, 1941, to Mary (nee Hawrysh) and Stanley Cisek. As the second eldest child, she was raised on the family farm in the Glenbain District with her sisters, Grace, Pearl and Patsy and her brother, Walter. Marie worked for a short time in the Hodgeville Hospital until June 1964, when she married her husband, Glen. Shortly after, Glen and Marie moved to Calgary where they had four children: Virginia, Duane, Valerie and Michael. In 1974, Glen and Marie moved to Moose Jaw, SK., and ultimately settled in Medicine Hat in 2006. Marie was well known for her passion of horticulture with her numerous house plants and her award winning orchids. She was also an avid walker, persistently making her 10,000 steps per day. Marie enjoyed coffee with her many friends in Medicine Hat and also had a deep love for the natural world and the beauty provided to us by God. Marie is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Glen; children, Duane (Carrie), Valerie and Michael (Jody) and her grandchildren, David, Zachary, Emily, Jonah, Marlee and Evan. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Stanley; her infant daughter, Virginia and her brothers-in-law, Richard Dauk and Edward Tinant. Marie will be laid to rest at the St. Matthias Cemetery near Hodgeville, SK., next to her daughter, Virginia and her parents, Mary and Stanley.

My deepest condolences to Glen and the entire family. I so enjoyed our coffee sessions with Marie at the MH Mall. Marie was so much fun and always entertaining. I considered her a good friend even though I did not know her for more than a year. She will be missed by all the coffee buddies. Rest In Peace my friend Marie.

With Deepest Sympathy to your family
I have had the absolute pleasure and joy to have many a visit at the Guest Service counter in the mall over the past ten years with Marie. Weather hearing of the perogies cook for her family, to the excitement of the new grandson that arrived, she was always there with a smile and kind words for the day. Marie had a kind and loving soul and shared that with me daily.
Cherish your memories, they will carry you through these difficult days ahead.
