Obituary - Eleanor Wright

Eleanor Wright

1929 - 2021

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Wright(2021)

It is with sadness the family announce the passing of their mother, Eleanor Helene Wright, beloved wife of the late Clifford Wright, at St. Joseph’s Home - Carmel Hospice, Medicine Hat on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the age of 92 years. Eleanor was born and raised in Medicine Hat and spent almost her entire life in the city she loved. She met and married another Medicine Hat resident, Cliff Wright, in 1954. They built a life for themselves together and made many life long friendships. Eleanor was an incredible and inspiring mom. She treasured her children almost as much as they did her. She especially loved and excelled at her role as grandmother. Her intelligence, kindness and grace were evident to all who had the pleasure of meeting and enjoying her love of family, friends, and life. In between raising three daughters, Eleanor dedicated herself to public service and her community. She was elected and served as a school board trustee for the Medicine Hat Public Schools and a town councilor for the Town of Vulcan during the family’s time there. She was the first female political campaign manager in the city of Medicine Hat. Thanks to Jim Horsman, who saw how capable and intelligent she truly was. Along with her already busy schedule, she found time to be the president of Kinettes, serve on an Alberta planning board and be a part of a multitude of other positions that made everywhere she lived a better place. In her long life, she maintained her interest in the world around her. Always reading, listening and never judging. She set a standard for the rest of us to try and achieve. If family and public service were not enough to keep Eleanor busy, she enjoyed skiing, sailing and traveling with Cliff and anyone who would join in the fun. Eleanor will be missed by many but no more than her three daughters; Janet, Carol (Mike) and Tanis (Joel); grandchildren Blake, Meg (Pete), Jack (Cassy), Janet (Bryan), Josh (Kurt) and Brooke. Eleanor will be interred with Cliff, who predeceased her on September 19, 2018. The family wish to thank St. Joesph’s Home for all the kindness and love they extended to their mom in her last days. It was very special and meant so much to us. The Celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Lackie officiating. NOTE: Due to the rising Covid-19 cases in Medicine Hat, the family requests that those attending the Funeral Service for their mother, Eleanor that you wear a mask during the service to minimize risks to yourself and others. Should you require a mask, one will be provided for you. If friends so desire, please give to a charity or foundation that you believe exemplifies Eleanor’s life best.

I am very sorry to hear that your Mom is gone. Such a loss for everyone who ever knew her.
She was a great friend to my Mom ( Beryl) and I spoke to her several times prior to and after my Moms death 13 months ago. She was torn between moving to Calgary or staying put in the Hat but did not want to burden you girls. What a sweetie!
Our parents created many memories together and remained close to the end.
Take care . My thoughts are with you.
    Brenda

Our deepest sympathy to your family. We met Eleanor and Cliff through my parents Al and June Burns. They remained lifelong friends regardless of distance. Gerry and I enjoyed going out for lunch with Eleanor and having visits at River Ridge. We enjoyed sharing our common history, values and fond memories. She loved her family deeply and treasured her children and grandchildren. Eleanor was a woman of character, integrity, intelligence, strength, kindness, refinement and much more. She was always quick to smile and laugh and had a keen wit sense of humour. Her public service and involvement with her community was considerable yet she always remained humble. She was an inspiration to us (and I'm certain to many others) and we will miss her.

In this time of loss, may friends bring you comfort, may family bring you love, and may memories bring you peace.

    Hi Girls
I don't know if you would remember me (our grandmothers were twin sisters) and my mother was Jean Rode (Edler). We saw each other a few times at the cabins at Elkwater while attending Anne and Mary's many Birthday celebrations. I just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She was a wonderful lady and had a good full life. I always enjoyed visiting with her. She will be missed by everyone. My Sincere Condolences to you and your families.
    Jo-Ann Statham (nee Rode)

For close to 75 years our family has known Eleanor and Cliff. Living in Manitoba, I would see Eleanor and Cliff visiting our grandparents and parents. It was always a joy to be around her. She had that calm integrity that was like a magnet and made you feel so good. To Janet, Carol and Tanis…heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Your Mom and Dad always were special and loved by our family. I will cherish the memories and the pictures of me as a two month old being held by them so many years ago. Love Bonnie Burn and Family
