Fred Beirnes
1938 - 2014
It is with great sorrow that we announce Mr. Frederick Lawrence Beirnes, beloved husband of Gerri Beirnes, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home Carmel Hospice on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the age of 75 years. Fred was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on August 28, 1938, and was raised in Ruthilda, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Bank of Canada in Plenty, Saskatchewan in 1957. Fred met and later married Geraldine Joyal on January 4, 1964. Throughout the years they lived in twelve different communities in Saskatchewan before retiring to Medicine Hat in 1993, where Fred worked for another six years. They spent many wonderful years in Mexico and Arizona and cruised to several locations including the South Pacific where they celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past November 2013. Besides his wife, Gerri, Fred is survived by his daughters, Sheila (Perry) and their family, Dean, Rebecca, Taylor and Shey; Tracy (Nick) and their family, Colby and Ashley; son, Brent (Daphne) and their family, Justin and Kyler; sisters, Gertie and Joy; brother-in-law, Kirk Joyal (Chris); sisters-in-law, Donalda Koch (Jerry deceased) and Barb Beirnes as well as several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Eunice and Gordon; sister, Viola; brother, Harry and brothers-in-law, Art, Clifford and Keith. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, AB., on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Father Long Vu celebrant. Interment will follow at a later date in Ruthilda, SK. Memorial donations in Fred’s name may be made directly to the Palliative Care Society, 640 - 3rd Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0H5 or to St. Joseph’s Home Carmel Hospice, 156 - 3rd Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1

Our very deepest sympathy on the passing of Fred. We remember when Fred took over from Ron as manager of the Royal in Swift Current in 1986, as we moved on to Saskatoon. It was tough to give up the reins but Ron felt that Fred was going to be a great person to follow him. We hope that your move to Alberta gave you many wonderful years & memories. Gerry, Michele, I and the boys along with my mom were saddened to hear of Fred's diagnosis and illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We think of you often. So sorry to hear about Mr. B. He was my manager at the Moosomin branch. Mr. B. was such a good person and great boss. He used to joke at work about all the fancy cars the staff had and he drove his dad's car, saying you could tell who was making all the money. My sympathy to all the family
