Mr. Francis Glen Grozell, beloved husband of Barb Grozell of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at the age of 76 years. Along with Barb, his loving wife of almost 50 years, left to cherish Glen’s memory are his two children, Kelly and Kim; two sisters, Myrel and Joyce; three brothers, Mel, Roy and George; very good friends, Dayle, Cheryl and Curtis as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Glen was predeceased by his siblings, Everett, Mabel, Archie, Eric and Wayne. On March 25, 1937, the second youngest of 16 children was born to Joseph and Myrel Grozell. Growing up in Bengough, SK., Glen lived a small town life until he started various jobs from Seismic to plumbing to Dare cookies. He got his call from Telus, formerly AGT, in 1975 and in 1976, relocated his family from Calgary to Redcliff where he eventually retired after 20+ years of service. Glen enjoyed curling in his earlier years and many rounds of golf at the Redcliff Golf Course where he celebrated his first and only “hole in one”. He was an avid “early bird” coffee go-er, meeting with his group at Tim’s every morning at 5:00 a.m. Glen is best known for his repetitive story telling but will be missed for his sense of humor, kind words, big heart and “repetitive story telling”. A Celebration of Glen’s life will be held at Westminster United Church, 101 - 6 Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Jan Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Glen may be made directly to the SPCA, 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 8E8 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 124, 430 - 6 Avenue S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2S8.

The Brotzell family wishes to extend our condolences to the family. My dad passed in May but used to have coffee with Glen at the Redcliff Legion. They shared many a laugh and great chats. Glen was always warm and friendly. I hope you all take comfort in the happy memories and that they can comfort you in this difficult time.

My heart hurts for you Auntie Bobby, Kim and Kelly, please know that my prayers are with you and for you. Uncle Glen will always remain in my memory and heart as the "gentle giant" he was, with a heart of gold. He was an inspiration to me and all; be it family, friend or just a passing acquaintance. He always had a smile, hug and joke or riddle for me. My fondest and most memorable memories of Uncle Glen that will remain in my heart and follow me through my life will be his incredible and amazing gift of being able to amaze and wow me with his jokes, brainteasers and magical illusions. "Auntie Glen" in conjunction with "Uncle booby". I will miss him. I will always resent the fact that everyday life and what it hands out on a daily basis, makes it so hard for those of us in the younger generation to have and or make time to connect and get together with our extended family members, who were responsible and had the greatest influence on who we are and how we came to be the people we are. I was not aware of "Auntie" (Uncle) Glen's S.P.C.A interest. Would love to have spoken and compared feelings. In lieu of not being able to, will save a few lives together. With Love Tammy

Barb, Kelly, Kim & all of the extended Grozell families: We were saddened to hear that Glen had died. He will be missed by all of you and anyone who knew him. When we think of Glen, Dale often tells the story of Glen & Larry (Dale's younger brother). Apparently, Larry & Glen had decided they would give smoking a try, not expecting to get caught, but they did, by Larry's Dad. "Okay boys, you want to smoke, give this a try", and he offered them a lit up cigar. Larry accepted the challenge but after a few puffs, abandoned the cigar and crawled under the front porch, slightly "green around the gills". Glen approached Larry's Dad and said, "Mr. Leflar, Larry will NEVER smoke again!" The Grozell-Leflar relationship is filled with many of those kinds of memories, the kind that make us smile or enjoy a good laugh. We hope that some of those same memories will help ease your sorrow during the weeks and months ahead. With our deepest sympathy.

Dear Barb and all the Family, We were indeed very saddened to read of the passing of your dear Glen. On behalf of Kiyo and myself, we wish to extend to you our deepest sympathies. You were great neighbors to us in Redcliff when we lived on 6th. Street and wonderful and loyal customers in our pharmacy. We really appreciated your business over the years and always enjoyed the times you or Glen came into the store. Glen was a gentle and very sweet man with a great sense of humor. We will be thinking of you at this time. Very sincerely, Debby and Kiyo Oikawa, formerly Redcliff and now Edmonton

I just heard about this now. I knew Mr. Grozell from my childhood. He was one of those outstanding dads that were always around. Kind to us kids, helpful and providing a great example. So sorry to have heard he passed.
