Mr. Alexander Bleich age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Medicine Hat.  Alex was born on May 7, 1916, at Rhein, Sask.  He came to the Spooner area with his parents in 1928, and attended Little Bridge School until he was 14 years of age. Alex helped at home farming with his Dad. In 1938, he married Millie Rommel and together they had six children.  They lived in Love, Sask. for four years where he was employed at a sawmill.  In 1942, they moved to the Spooner District and started farming. Alex retiring from farming in 1975, he moved to Codette, Sask.  He worked for the towns of Codette and Nipawin for a time as well as farming for Irvin & Bill Perkins.  Alex left Codette in 1983 and moved to Medicine Hat where he married Eleanor Stratton in April 1990.  His life in Medicine Hat included curling, bingo seniors baseball & fishing. Alex was an avid fan of the Medicine Hat Tigers, Blue Jays and the Mavericks.  Winter evenings found him at the hockey arena cheering on the Mustangs.  In Oct. 2003, Alex suffered a stroke, and was no longer able to live independently. In Jan. 2004, he moved to Meadowlands Seniors Residence where he received assisted living. Alex enjoyed bingo, music entertainment and watching sports on TV. In June 2009, he was moved to Sunnyside Nursing Home where he received full care and received much enjoyment through the various styles of musical entertainment offered to the residents.  Alex is survived by his wife, Eleanor and loving family: daughters, Sharon Forbes of Kamloops, B.C. and Diana (Adam) Hutchison of White Rock, B.C.; sons, Howard (Doreen) of Nipawin, Sask. and Murray (Helen) of Prince George, B.C.;  sisters, Mary Rostvold of Vancouver, B.C, Rachel Mattinson of Nipawin, Sask. and Alvina (Floyd) Temple of Carrot River, Sask. as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.  Alex was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Mary;  daughters, Darlene Shiels and Marjorie Melby;  brothers, Ferdie, Albert, Henry & George;  sister, Molly Allen as well as one grandson, Kevin Bleich.  The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.  The family would like to thank Dr. Jeraj, Pastor Findley and the staff at Sunnyside Nursing Home for the great care given to Alex. If friends so desire, Memorial Tributes in memory of Alex may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
