Obituary - Helen Solley

Mrs. Helen Alberta Solley, beloved wife of the late Mr. Stephen (Steve) Solley, passed away at the Valleyview Care facility on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the age of 87 years. She leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Evelyn Johnson; sister-in-law, Lynn Solley; nieces, Lynne (Ernie) Rance, Penny (Lloyd) Haynes, Jacquie (Daryl) Greenstein all of Medicine Hat, Peggy (Barry) Agnew of Calgary; nephews, Fred (Carol) Melbourn and John (Nancy) Melbourn of Calgary; God-daughter, Dorothy (Terry) Link of Medicine Hat and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gustav and Matilda Johnson; sisters, Lydia, Agnes, Hilding and a brother, John. Helen was born November 14, 1921, in Schuler where she attended school. Following her schooling years, she moved to Medicine Hat in 1942. She was employed at the Medicine Hat Steam Laundry for 17 years as well as the Medicine Hat Court House for 16 years until she retired. She loved 'happy hour', reading, doing crossword puzzles, going to the Tiger games, playing cards, knitting men's socks and fishing. One of her most memorable moments was when she went on holidays out to the west coast to visit 'The Thompson's', she reeled in a 32 lb salmon. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Helen's name may be made directly to the SPCA, 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 8E8.
