On Thursday March 5, 2026, Alfred Allan Longworth “Al” passed away peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family at his care home in Medicine Hat. Al’s kindness, positive attitude and humour touched everyone lucky enough to have known him.
He is survived by his children, Bradley and Raelynn (Lloyd); his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee and Hayden and their father Jeff; brothers, Lorne, Earl, Carl, Lyle and sisters, Kay, June and Priscilla. Al’s family meant everything to him and he was always willing to help in any way he could. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Darlene; parents, Joseph and Catherine Longworth and brothers, Sheldon and Dean.
Al was born on November 27, 1935 in Springwater, Saskatchewan. After growing up in nearby Woodrow, he moved to Regina where he worked and later married his high school sweetheart, Darlene, on July 9, 1960. They honeymooned in Yellowstone and within three years, started their family. Al had a long and varied career with the University of Regina and ultimately became a carpenter.
Al and Darlene spent many joyous years raising their children, traveling and after retirement, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona with family and friends.
Al had a huge passion for sports and was very athletic, playing curling and baseball most of his life. He was also a devout Saskatchewan Roughrider fan.
Al’s legacy is one of kindness, hard work, humour and commitment to his family. His gentle ways, funny stories and quirky sayings as well as his love of singing will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A private celebration of life with family and close friends will be held at a future date this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Al’s name can be made directly to the Alzheimer's Society, 412 - 3 Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0H1.

Oh Al what can I say. I have many many fond memories of you. A duct tape incident comes to mind, “Olga”, your upholstery skills, carpenter skills (still have my CD stand) etc. You were kind, thoughtful and caring. You always had a smile and a big hug for me. I am so blessed to have known you. Sending Kisses to heaven. I know Darlene and you are watching over your loved ones.

Dear Bradley, Raelynn & families ... We were sorry to learn of your Dad's passing, but are grateful that his struggles are over. We have beloved memories of times spent with your Dad and Mom. We became friends through the MH Sr. Slow Pitch league, and enjoyed the opportunities we had to connect at our ballpark and at various tournaments throughout the province. But our most-favorite event to participate in together was the yearly World Sr. Games in St. George, UT.
We recall one year when your Dad pitched 5 back-to-back games to help the Huff & Puff's Team win the Gold medal. By the time the team was declared the winner, your Dad had no feeling left in his feet and toes, but his huge smile and happy tears told the full story. He had accomplished a once-in-a-lifetime success story, and he made us all so proud!
We loved the potluck gatherings we had in the homes of folks within or friendship circle or in the social room at your Dad and Mom's condo residence. They were the perfect host and hostess and we had such great evenings together. We pray that your hearts and minds will also find comfort and joy in the memories you have of your Dad. He was a wonderful man, and we thank the Lord for the privilege we had of knowing him and calling him "friend."
