Obituary - Carol Farr

Carol Farr

1944 - 2026

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Farr(2026)

It is with deep sadness that the family of Carol Joy Farr announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the age of 81 years.

Carol was born on December 14, 1944, in Cabri, Saskatchewan, to Harold and Cathy Abraham. She often shared that she could not have imagined a better place to grow up than her small prairie town of Cabri, where the strong sense of community, freedom to play and explore, and many opportunities to be involved helped shape the person she would become. She enthusiastically participated in CGIT, band as a majorette, and worked as a lifeguard as she was also a beautiful swimmer.

In 1965, Carol graduated from the School of Nursing in Medicine Hat, beginning a career that reflected her caring heart and dedication to others. She later furthered her education by earning her Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1979, an achievement she was extremely proud of. Carol passed on her knowledge through the Medicine Hat College where she taught in the Nursing program, as well as the Medical Arts Clinic, and the Community Health Unit where she was responsible for the Genetics division. During her training and throughout her career, she formed friendships that remained among her closest throughout her life. Nursing was more than a profession to Carol; it was an extension of who she was: compassionate, steady, and generous with her time, providing comfort, care, and kindness to countless patients and families.

After graduation, Carol moved to California where she met Martin Farr. After a few years, they returned to Canada, where she continued to build a life centered around family, friendships and community, always maintaining her strong prairie values and vibrant spirit.

In retirement, Carol continued giving back through volunteer work with the Medicine Hat Food Bank. She embraced life fully and found great joy in curling, golfing and playing bridge. She loved staying active and social, and cherished time spent with family and friends.

Her family takes comfort in the many memories shared and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her. Carol will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, strength, generosity, and vibrant spirit. In her memory, her family encourages others to cherish their loved ones, and above all, live life to the fullest.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Leslie Joanne (Al) Kinghorn; granddaughter, Mia Catherine Kinghorn; son, Brett Harold Farr (Valerie Carlson); brother, Max (Dalice) Abraham as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Cathy Abraham; her late ex-husband, Martin Farr; her longtime partner with whom she shared over 35 years, Wayne Olenick and her sister, Elaine Levorson.

You are warmly invited to attend and celebrate the life of this wonderful lady whose presence made a lasting impression on so many lives. The Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. The service will be live-streamed. Those who cannot attend but wish to experience the celebration may visit the Cook Southland Funeral Chapel website and select the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time. I was extremely fortunate to work with Carol for many years through the Genetics outreach service in Medicine Hat. She was an excellent nurse and I learned a lot from her about the patients, families and communities we served. I enjoyed every visit to the clinic and every lunch we shared talking about family and friends. My condolences to her loved ones.

So sorry to hear this news. Carol and I go back 81 years. We grew up together and did so much together until we left Cabri. We went to school together, played basketball, softball, curled, swam, took our Red Cross swimming instructor course together in Moose Jaw, did homework together, many other activities that are too many to mention. We parted after highschool as I went teaching and she went nursing. We always kept in touch. I am going to miss her but have many good memories of our times together.

Rest in Peace my childhood Cabri, Sask friend. We marched together in the Cabri Brass Band years ago ❤️ with Bert Culham trying to keep us all in line- Carol as a lovely majorette out front and me in the Band trying to March and blow on a trumpet. Small town prairie living at its best! Carolyn(
