Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Myers(2026)

August 3, 1937 ~ January 1, 2026

It is with a broken heart that Marlene announces the passing of her beloved husband, Barrie Maynard Myers. He passed away at River Ridge Seniors Village in Medicine Hat on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the age of 88 years. Along with Marlene, left to cherish Barrie’s memory are his children: son, Kevin (Shelly) and their family, Brenden (Sasha) (Bella and Scarlett), Kerry (Brendan) (Shea and Quinn); daughter, Kim (Chuck) Getz) and their family, Dustin (Emma) (Rylee and Rheya) and Kaylee (Luke); siblings, Kenneth (Monique) and Bernice (Duke); Marlene’s siblings, Wayne (Dianne) Wareham and Bev (Wayne) Stanley as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Barrie was born and raised in Wawota, Saskatchewan, a place he always called home. A welder by trade, Barrie dedicated many years of his working life to Saskatchewan Minerals, where he was known for his strong work ethic, skill and reliability. Following his retirement, Barrie embraced a slower pace of life and found great enjoyment in woodworking and golf. Whether creating something with his hands or spending time on the course, he took pride in doing things well and savoured the simple pleasures of each day. He leaves behind many memories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Barrie’s life was held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. The service can be viewed in its entirety below.

    Marlene and Family
Our deepest condolences to you and all the family. Hang onto all those good memories you and Barrie will have made over the years. Sending lots of love and big hugs to all the family. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. Wish we could be with you at this time but circumstances here prevent that, but with you in thoughts for sure.

Our hearts go out to Marlene and the family. Great memories of Uncle Barrie, especially when we were all younger and were able to get together more often. Barrie remined me a lot of Ralph at the dinner table, cleaning up everything on his plate (but not getting in trouble from Grandma Lil, Like Grandpa Ralph got), burnt toast and all. I think Barrie's best attribute was his never ending smile, which he always had in good times and bad. He was a real gentleman and a pleasure to be around throughout his life. We will miss his stories of the farm and the old days and his great demeaner. I'm sure he will be lighting up the 19th hole with a smile.

That was a wonderful service. Hearing the stories of Uncle Barrie brought back some memories of my own. I can remember going golfing with Uncle Barrie when I was 9 or 10 years old. He would spend lots of time showing me how to swing the club. Showing me all the ins and outs of the game. But my fondest memory was him showing me how to snare gophers. We were at grandma Wareham's in Rivers. He took me out to a farmers field who had some cattle. We went out there and laid down in a spot where the gopher wouldn’t see us, when it popped its head up, I’d pull that string as fast as I could. Well, Uncle Barrie had an amazing amount of patience. After about a million attempts I finally got one! I can still remember Uncle Barrie’s laugh. I fished that gopher out of its hole, got him right up to the top and that stupid string broke. I was so upset. lol
But Uncle Barrie just patted me on the back, said I did a great job but we had to get back to grandmas because she was making her famous donuts and I didn’t argue one bit.
Later on in life we would go out to Clear Lake and see Auntie Mic and Uncle Barrie at the cabin. I would always look forward to that. I always enjoyed listening to Auntie Mic and Uncle Barrie tell us all about Kevin and Kim and all the grandkids.
Take care every one. Hopefully our paths will cross again someday and I’m sure that day would be filled with stories and lots of laughter.
