Marvin Paul Mensaghi
April 8, 1954 ~ January 1, 2026
We are deeply saddened to share, Marvin passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in Medicine Hat at the age of 71 years.
Marvin was born in Fort Macleod on April 8, 1954, and was predeceased by his parents, Reno and Margaret Mensaghi. He was the middle sibling to his older brother, Ron Mensaghi and his younger sister, Lorie (Mark) Filatoff.
Marvin studied business at SAIT and began a lengthy, successful career in the banking industry focused on agricultural and greenhouse lending. He was a highly respected business leader in Medicine Hat, known for his sharp mind and astute advice always sought after by his many clients and associates through the years.
On December 11, 1982, Marvin married his love Colleen, recently celebrating 43 years of marriage. They shared a wonderful life together raising their three children in Medicine Hat: Trina (Jim) Balkwill, Aaron (Katina) Munro and Harmony (William) Swan. He was a proud grandfather to Taylor (Ken) Kelley, Cassidy (Braiden) Munro, Connor, Elizabeth, and Liam Balkwill; and Savannah, William, Amelia, and Abram Swan as well as a great-grandfather to Emerson and Ellie Munro.
Blessed with an incredible sense of humour, Marvin was a true jokester. He had a natural way of lighting up every room he entered and never forgot a name. He enjoyed cooking, was a car enthusiast and always treasured time spent with his dear Colleen, friends, and family, particularly time out in Waterton and Elkwater.
Marvin touched more lives than he could ever have known. His legacy of enduring relationships and his gift for making people feel truly seen, will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Guided and sustained by his faith throughout his life, we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace and in the presence of God.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Fernando Gonogaling celebrant. Memorial donations in Marvin’s name may be made directly to the Mustard Seed, 737 - 8 Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1M6.

Sincere condolences to Marvin's family. We are saddened to read this but he is pain free and resting in peace and conversing with his parents, his clients and many of his friends. Marvin was a great husband to his beautiful wife Colleen, was a great father, a special grandpa to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved you all along with many friends who will miss him dearly. We had the previledge of dealing with Marvin at FCC and I worked with Marvin at BMO for many years and lit up a room as he entered it with a huge smile on his face, a jokester he was and always very interesting to chat with. His clients were his world at work and went the extra mile for each and everyone on a daily basis. Marvin touched many lives and will be missed immensely. Your job on this earth is completed and you have earned your wings.

Dear Colleen, Trina, Aaron, Harmony and families,
We were very saddened to read of Marvin’s passing. It is through the children (Trina, Aaron and Harmony) while they were students at St. Mary’s School that I (Mel), as a teacher/administrator, first met Colleen & Marvin. Marvin was one of the kindest, friendliest and most personable men I had the pleasure of meeting. Later, Chris and I would meet Colleen & Marvin at Elkwater when they had their cabin there. He was an incredible man of faith and is now both at peace and rest with his loving God. May the love and support of family and friends give you strength and comfort as you mourn Marvin’s passing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we extend our sincerest sympathies….

My sincere condolences to Marvin's family. We had many conversations in the city parking lot behind BMO when he was done his days work there and I worked at RBC. He was always a pleasure to talk to as we discussed and only solved a few banking issues. Marvin was a true gentleman.

Colleen and family:
We are saddened to hear of Marvin's passing. We shared an interest in serving the agricultural community throughout our careers. He had extensive expertise in the financial lending sector and the ability to quickly connect with clients and his many acquaintances. As often happens in life, we both got busy raising a family which limited our time together over the years but in the event that we did run into each other he always greeted us with warmth and friendship which was his best attribute and he was always ready with a joke and a smile that brightened our day. He will be missed. Hoping this message provides some strength during this difficult time.

Dear Colleen and Family. Marvin was an inspiration to me. Meeting him changed the direction of my life, for the better. He was a kind, righteous man, with a gigantic heart and wonderful sense of humour. He is being rewarded in heaven right now for the man that he was. Marvin: Till we meet again, my friend.

Marvin was a great colleague at FCC, and always great to talk to. The bawling calf imitation still makes me smile thinking of it. Heaven will never be quiet again.
