Obituary - Charles Tumback

Charles Tumback

1952 - 2025

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Tumback(2025)

October 4, 1952 - December 1, 2025

Charles Tumback passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janis; daughter, Gina (Tom) Fanning and their son, Marcus; daughter, Brenna Hittel (Khris Graham) and her children, Kinley and Jase. Charles was born on October 4, 1952, in Prelate, SK., to Simon and Barbara Tumback. He grew up on the family farm south of Lancer and continued his life farming with his brother, Larry until retirement in 2019. Charles and Janis were married on November 27, 1976, and raised their two daughters on the family farm. Charles volunteered his time with Lancer Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, R.M. of Clinworth as well as the Cabri Hospital Board. Charles also loved auction sales, garage sales and found joy in wheeling and dealing for the best deal! His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids as he spoiled them with chocolate bars and pop! Charles and Janis retired to Medicine Hat in 2019 in order to spend more time with their girls and their families watching their grandchildren’s sports and activities. He always enjoyed a good visit and an opportunity to catch up with friends over a drink of scotch. Charles loved his family dearly and will be missed and lovingly remembered. A Celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Reflections, 937 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (Please use the south patio entrance).

The service will be live-streamed. Those who cannot attend but wish to experience his celebration may visit the Cook Southland Funeral Chapel website and select the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time.

We believe Charles was a worthy representative of the Tumback clan. It was a pleasant surprise to meet him and Janis as new owners of the adjoining half-duplex in 2019. Every conversation in the flower garden, kitchen, or on the deck was meaningful, humorous, or about life in the community they were leaving. We will miss Charles, but we look forward to many coffee times with Janis.

My deepest sympathies to Janis and family and to the Tumback family. Sometimes life doesn’t seem fair taking someone we all love so suddenly. Charles was a great friend. We worked together and played together through our school years and farming together later on. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and always had a smile. We will all miss him!!
