October 17, 1924 ~ October 10, 2025
Leontina Batsel, beloved wife of the late Mr. Alexander Batsel, passed away peacefully at AgeCare Riverview in Medicine Hat on Friday, October 10, 2025, just one week before her 101st birthday. Leontina’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family: children, Vic (Sharon) Batsel, Hilda (Roy) Leonovich, Vera (Dan) Berrie and Waldy (Oi) Batsel; grandchildren, Kevin (Janeth), Kyle, Angie (Kelvin), Michael (Jenna), Derrick (Amanda), Dillon (Sierra), Celina (Teagan) and Jason (Casey); great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Hazel, Silas, Ivy, Arya, Hudson and Dekker. Along with Alex, Leontina was predeceased by her parents, Wilhelm and Maria Lachenmaier; one brother and one sister as well as a grandson, Craig Batsel. Leontina loved and lived for God and was very involved with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. A Private Graveside service honouring Leontina’s life has taken place. Rather than gifts of flowers, family suggest those wishing to remember Leontina do so through a donation to the charity of their choice.

My deepest sympathy in the loss of Leontina. I met Leontina when I worked at the “old” Medical Arts Clinic on 6th Street, many, many years ago. She always had a smile on her face & was so very kind. May she rest in Peace. 🪦 She was a sweet lady. 💔💐🙏

My sincerest condolences to the Batsel families. We first met soon after you came to Canada and came to my ESL class at MHC. Over the many years since then, I've often thought of you all and the times we enjoyed together. I remember "Mama," as she was called by the whole class, for her cheerful attitude, generosity and openness. (I still make one of her recipes from time to time because it became a favourite on my family's dinner plate.) I was honoured to know her.
