April 30, 1940 ~ September 20, 2025
Mr. August Soehn, beloved husband of the late Magdalen Soehn (nee Bosch), passed away at St. Joseph’s Home - Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the age of 85 years. August is survived by his daughter, Noel (James McArdle) and their children, Madison and Jack McArdle; and a son, Dr. Scott Soehn (Dr. Melanie Lewis) and the three Soehn grandsons, Spencer, Cael and Finlay.
August was the youngest son of Anton and Eva Soehn and grew up in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan with his seven brothers and one sister. Upon turning 18, August moved to Medicine Hat where he got his start in the Graphic Arts field working at Pete’s signs. August married the love of his life, Magdalen, in 1960. He started at CHAT in the art department the following year and then became the Art Director for CHAT television. After 40 years “in the same room and the same building” he retired in April of 2001. August enjoyed golf, traveling and working in his woodworking shop. He especially enjoyed camping with his family, many family trips and the Bosch family reunions where many of the nieces and nephews could tell you a story or two that Uncle August told them.
The family would like to thank the staff at Meadow Ridge Seniors Village for their care, compassion and kindness during August’s stay.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Paolo Cervantes celebrant. Gift bearers for the funeral mass will be Cherie Johnson, Wes Sehn and Neil Bosch. Private Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a reception thereafter in the Reflections Reception Facility. August’s Funeral Mass will be live-streamed. What a wonderful man! I worked at the Heart & Stroke Foundation office and we were blessed with the support from CHAT Radio & TV. August did our advertising, made signs for the golf tournament and anyway he could help. Always came to the office with the biggest smile on his face. Kindhearted and so gentle. He talked about Magdalen and his family with pride. God now has a gifted artist in heaven. Our sincerest condolences to his family. He will be missed!

Good-bye August. You were so much fun to have in our family. We have so many fun times together. A special one is our family trip to Hawaii. Before we set our suitcases down you had us all signed up for all the tours! You are at peace now.

Deepest Sympathies Noel, James & Family; Scott, Melanie & Family; Soehn Families and Bosch Families!
We last spoke with August at Aunt Rose's funeral luncheon in 2016 where August's vivid description of his life's journey was filled with joy and gratitude. Foremost, August was proud of his beloved wife (my parents called her Maggie) and his ambitious children - Noel and Scott. And yes, when August enthusiastically noted his lengthy work life at CHAT TV, it was evident that he felt recognized and fulfilled. In mentioning his final conversations with Bill Yuill, August emphasized his appreciation for their interactions.
May the God of all comfort sustain your families during the days ahead! Psalm 119:76 Blessings from the family of Henry and Minnie Meyer.

We are so saddened to hear of August’s passing. He was a wonderful and talented man. He worked with my father at CHAT (Orv Kope). I loved to visit his art studio when Dad would take me up to the television station. August made signs for me when I entered the Medicine Hat Kiddie Parade. He also made some things for my Kindergarten class at St. Francis, where I taught with Magdalen. He also made great golf ball trophies for the mini golf tournament Ian and I had the morning before we were married.
It is difficult to lose our parents, but some comfort can be found in knowing that August and Magdalen are together again.
Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
