August 21, 1946 ~ May 7, 2025
It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Alan Richard Bergen, beloved husband of the late Marie-France Bergen, announce his passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at th age of 78 years.
Alan dedicated his life to the service of others, working as a veterinarian for 50 years. His deep love for animals and tireless commitment to their care earned him the respect and admiration of both his peers and clients. Equally committed to his community, Alan was a proud and active member of the Lions Club for 50 years, always ready to lend a hand and support a cause greater than himself.
A man of remarkable strength—both physically and mentally—Alan was known for his strong work ethic, resilience and boundless generosity. He faced every challenge with determination and every opportunity with kindness. He had a warm heart, a sharp wit, and a great sense of humour that brought joy to those lucky enough to know him.
Alan cherished his family above all. He is survived by his devoted children, Angela and Nicholas and by his beloved grandson, Nash, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Alan will also be deeply missed by his sisters: Barbara (and her late husband Frank), Marietta (Ben) and Alvina (Stephen). His extended family, friends, and community will forever remember him as a pillar of strength, compassion and love.
Alan will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal service. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Alan’s name may be made directly to the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre, c/o Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, 666 - 5 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 4H6.

So sorry for your loss. That was a beautiful obituary and was exactly what I knew your Dad to be. I worked for him only a few years, but will never forget all that he was and what he taught me. He can now be with his beautiful Marie once again.

Angela and Nicholas, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. He was a good man, patient with new hires, willing to train, and always trusting. I enjoyed working for him those many years ago and have many memories of him at the veterinary clinic, also of you two as small children coming to the little clinic and hanging around. I have very fond memories of Alan, both as a veterinarian and as a friend. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Judy and Jack

Our sincere condolences to Nick and Angela. What a lovely obituary to a very kind and thoughtful man who we were lucky enough to call our neighbour for many years. We will miss seeing you in the garden which always turned into a chat and a visit.
Rest in peace Alan.

Our family would like to extend our condolences to Al's family and friends during this time. He and Marie will always be remembered by our family as our neighbors.
Their kindness and strength, will always be appreciated and admired.
Al's strong work ethic, dedication, and stubbornness was always visible no matter his challenges the last couple of years. I am grateful for the few times I could be around to help, I know it was very difficult to ask.
