Dean Parchewsky

1969 - 2025

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Parchewsky(2025)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dean Thomas Parchewsky, formerly of Medicine Hat and most recently of Canmore, Alberta. Dean passed away in Canmore on April 16, 2025, at the age of 56 years.

Dean was born on April 4, 1969, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In 1970, he moved with his parents to Calgary, where he attended Marlborough Elementary School. In 1980, the family relocated to Medicine Hat, where Dean graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 1986. He went on to attend Medicine Hat College and completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Calgary in 1991.

Dean was a passionate entrepreneur, purchasing Superior Carpet Cleaning at the remarkable young age of 22. What began as a bold venture turned into a rewarding and successful career. By his early 40’s, Dean had become financially independent, a testament to his drive and dedication.

Although Dean never married and had no children, he shared a special bond with his beloved Springer Spaniel, Bart, who brought him joy and companionship for many years. Dean lived a full and vibrant life. He loved to socialize, travel - especially to Mexico - and spend time outdoors. He enjoyed dirt biking, fishing, and camping. An avid hockey player in his youth, Dean later refereed peewee games in Medicine Hat, staying connected to a sport he loved.

Dean is survived by his loving parents, Bernie and Shirley Parchewsky of Kelowna, BC; his brother, Dylan (Melanie) Parchewsky of Forestburg, AB; his cherished Baba, Katheryn Parchewsky of Saskatoon (who will soon celebrate her 100th birthday); uncle, Ernie Parchewsky of Brantford, Ontario; aunts, Linda Clarke of Kindersley, Sask. and Margaret Grist of Saskatoon, Sask.; nephews and nieces: Zenon (Janaya) Parchewsky, Zackery (Sabrina Rose) Parchewsky, and Tailyn (Teryll Sherman) Parchewsky; grand-nephew Malakai Parchewsky (son of Zenon & Janaya); grand-nieces, Sullivan Parchewsky (daughter of Zenon & Janaya) and Sophia Parchewsky (daughter of Zackery & Sabrina) as well as numerous cousins.

Dean was predeceased by his Gido, Edward Parchewsky; uncles, Charlie and Murray Parchewsky; grandfather Robert Grist; grandmother, Hannah Grist; uncle Percy Grist all of Saskatoon and uncle Jack Clarke of Kindersley, Sask.

Dean will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. A Service in Celebration of Dean’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street SW, Medicine Hat on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Gary Strugari officiating.

Memorial donations in Dean’s name may be made to support Mental Health Research - a cause close to his heart - c/o the Canadian Mental Helth Association, 130 - 450 - 3rd Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0H1.

See you on the other side Dean. From the age of 12 until I was 20, I had the pleasure and benefit of working with Dean, on and off, helping with carpet cleaning. He was a great boss that helped shape the work ethic in me that was learned from his constant demonstration. Thank you Dean!

Dean was a great friend and roommate to our son, Wade. Even though they each pursued different career paths, we will always remember and admire Dean for his work ethic, laugh and friendly smile as we knew him through his carpet cleaning business. A sad day to read of his passing.

Dear Bernie and Shirley, we are so sorry to hear about Dean, and even though we didn’t know him personally, you shared your love for him. You both have been such good friends for many years and we can’t comprehend how painful it is to lose a child. It’s just not right. We send love to you, Dylan, and all your family. 💕
