Obituary - Terry Butterwick

Terry Butterwick

1948 - 2024

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Butterwick(2024)

October 23, 1948 ~ December 26, 2024

Terrence ‘Terry’ George Butterwick passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 76 years. Terry was born in Lethbridge, AB and lived his entire life in southern Alberta, spending most of his free time in the great outdoors. He was happy with a hunting gun, a fishing rod, or a golf club in his hands, or even out riding his electric bike when health challenges limited his mobility. However, Terry enjoyed himself the most when he was with others. He valued his family and friends more than any material possession, growing his circle of friends considerably prior to retirement through his passion for woodcarving. Left to remember Terry are his partner, Karen Hollingsworth-Trehub and her family; daughter, Julia (Darcy) Reding and their children, Kaiden and Kevin; son, Troy (Trisha Divall) and their children, Brooklyn, Mackenzie, and Abby; his former wife and mother of his children, Donna Butterwick; brothers, Dale (Micheline), Ross (Donna Lee) and Warren (Carrie) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. A Celebration of Terry's life will be held at the Foremost Community Hall, 802 - 1 Avenue West, Foremost, Alberta on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Foremost Cemetery.

The service will be live-streamed. Those who cannot attend but wish to experience the celebration may visit the Cook Southland website and select the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time.

I am so sorry to hear that Terry passed away. I am glad it was peaceful though.
He loved his family and home in Alberta. I had hoped to visit him this Spring, since I moved closer to Alberta. This all happened so suddenly and I am glad of the phone correspondence I had with him.
Love you Cousin and will miss you!

My deepest condolences to all members of Terry's family.

I first met him when I was a teenager and he gave me an opportunity to work as a student work experience placement in his tire shop in Foremost. He was a good teacher, a tough businessman, he was fair, he had a great sense of humour and looking back, he taught me a lot in that formative experience about organizing to a task, dealing with customers, working to meet timelines and goals and working on a team.

I will always remember his wry sense of humour and the twinkle in his eye as he'd tease just about everyone. The world is a poorer place with his absence.

My sincerest sympathies to Terry's family; Karen and her family, Julia, Troy and their families.

Terry was indeed a man of many talents and was always eager to share with anyone who asked. The sly smile and wink as stories were told around the table in the garage. I'll miss the opportunities to sit and learn from such an accomplished and experienced carver.

I'll remember our last fishing trip, even though we were both 'skunked', the time in the sun sharing stories will always be remembered.

Terry's encouragement to expand my talents, was moving me to challenge what I thought to be impossible.

Friends who become Mentors, are few and far between. He was that special, he is gone but not forgotten.
