Barton John Gawletz, beloved dad to Brett and Katelynn and a cherished son to Donna and Wayne Pekrul, passed away in Medicine Hat on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the age of 52 years.
Bart was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on March 17, 1972. He went to school in Moose Jaw and attended high school in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. Bart worked most of his life as a journeymen sheet metal worker. He started his career with HR Enterprises in Regina and later moved to Medicine Hat were he gained employment at PadCar Mechanical, Baumann’s Ventilation and Plumbing and was currently employed at Cozart's Heating and Air Conditioning before his passing.
Bart married Susan Crook in 2006 and they had two children, Brett in 2007 and Katelynn in 2010. Following their separation, Bart took the role of being a single dad head-on. He always found joy in cooking and was very good at it; growing vegetables, making pickles and would can in the fall. The purchase of a smoker, brought on new adventures that Bart was prepared to tackle. He loved barbecuing and cooking on his smoker where he made many creations including bacon roses for Donna on Mother’s Day. Katelynn’s lunches always included a little note to tell her to have a good day.
Bart has been described as one of a kind; he truly was. He certainly made his enemies and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind as he didn’t own an inside voice.
Bart leaves to morn his passing his amazing children, Brett and Katelynn and their mother, Susan as well as his parents, Wayne and Donna Pekrul. He also leaves to cherish his memory his Aunt Sylvia (Terry), Uncle Niel, Uncle David, Uncle Ken (Colleen), Aunt Audrey (Henry), Uncle Russell (Lorraine); nephew, Tristan (Emily) and niece, Jordyn as well as many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, John Gawletz; brother, Wayne; Aunt Sally Korneychuk; his grandparents and his mother-in-law, Debbie Crook.
A Celebration of Bart's life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th St SW , Medicine Hat on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating.

My deepest condolences to the family. My heart goes out to his kids. Bart was an amazing guy. He had the best sense of humour ever. His cooking….well he should have been a chef! i took over a couple pork loins for him to smoke. He called me up a couple days later and said my food was ready. well let me tell you….. the best pulled pork i’ve ever ate in my life. The flavour in his homemade sauce…I can’t even put words together on just how delicious it was. To top it off he made home made coleslaw with a couple different kinds of apples in it. i’ve never liked coleslaw and i think he saw my nose crinkle because he laughed and said “you haven’t tried my coleslaw”. He was right…I loved it! I run into Bart at least 3 times a week and will sure miss the laughs i have with him each time
