Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Donohue(2024) "Billy"

William James Donohue, more affectionately known as Bill or Billy, age 62 of Medicine Hat, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 13, 2024. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the second child of Jeannine and the late William James Donohue. He is also predeceased by his step-father, Owen Hazel.

Bill proudly served his country as a Paratrooper until his retirement in 1996.

Bill loved fishing and the outdoors. He was passionate about many things in life including butchering, cooking and especially community involvement. Bill was most passionate about spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quick wit and smart-ass comments, his kindness and willingness to help others, but most of all, for his unwavering love and devotion to his family.

Bill will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Jacquie ‘Jake’; his loving children, Justin, Mackenzie and William; his brothers and sisters, Donnie (Leeanne), James, Cindy (Mike), Linda (Danny) and Owen (Tammy) as well as his extended family.

I got this sudden and sad news on Tuesday (October 15/2024) morning.

Thinking of Bill on this day (October 20/2024) (and by extension Jackie for I cannot think of them separately - never could) I am reminded of how fantastic their wedding day was. Smiles and celebrations all-round and one of the best times I ever had. I retrospect I only got a handful of experiences with Bill throughout his life but they were, as a collective, deeply memorable and in their own way profound. Bill was someone with real presence, once you met him, could not be forgotten. He was, for me at least, and to borrow a somewhat old-fashioned phrase: "Good people."

I will remember him and in such a respectful and caring act I will miss him.

    Be at Peace Bill.

My heartfelt condolences to Jacquie, Mackenzie, William and Justin. Bill was a good friend. When the family lived in the Langley area, I was always invited to dinner on Saturday evening. So many good times spent there with family. Still can't believe that he has left us. Fair winds and soft landings Jumper.
