With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Julia Tobin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, sister-in-law, cousin and friend. Julia, age 71, passed away at her residence in Medicine Hat on July 19, 2024. Formerly of Trepassey, Newfoundland, she will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and unwavering spirit. Julia was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Bernard Hackett; brother, Ed Hackett; sister, Diane Critch and brother-in-law, Lar Critch. She is deeply mourned by her children, Trina (David) Ford and Chris Tobin and her cherished grandchildren, Juliana (Josh), Spencer and Silas who were her pride and joy. Her passing is also mourned by her siblings, Elizabeth (Wish) Corcoran, Dot (David) Driscoll, Brian (Kerri) Hackett and Lisa Hackett along with her many loved ones who will forever cherish her memory. Julia was adored by her many nieces and nephews who hold dear the countless memories they shared with her. She also leaves behind many friends in both Alberta and Newfoundland, including her cherished friends at Cypress View Foundation; her steadfast companion Pat Bartley who was there for her through thick and thin and Lynn Hoffman, whose nightly phone calls always kept her company. A woman of immense strength, Julia faced the many challenges life presented her with courage, grace and a smile. Her positive attitude and resilience were a source of inspiration to those around her as she navigated health issues for the past 15 years. Funeral Mass for Julia will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat, on August 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In accordance with her wishes, she will be laid to rest in Trepassey, Newfoundland, with a service there on August 18, 2024. May her gentle soul rest in peace until we meet again.

Trina, Chris and families, we are so sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a sweet lady and I remember the first time I met her, she was in St. Clare’s just after giving birth to Trina and I was in having Sheldon. She will always be with you in your hearts and in all the wonderful memories you have of her.

She was one of the kindest souls I've ever met and, even though there were days when she wasn't feeling well, Julia was able to find something positive to say. She cherished her family and it's for you I pray your memories of her will help you as you journey through your grief.

She truly was a very special friend who in spite of all her health issues always managed to lift me up. She had a very special little giggle. God grant her soul rest.

I am so sorry to hear of Julia's passing. She was the housekeeper on LDR when I met her - always a smile and a cheerful comment. We had some good laughs. I remember when she went to another ward to work but she would still come visit.

I remember as a child visiting our Trepassey cousins. Everyone was good to us, but Julie and I because of our age was the same, we got close and she was there for me when my Dad passed away. I love her and always will. Condolences to Elizabeth, Dot, Brian and Lisa.

Condolences to her family she was such a sweet lady. I used to care for her every day. I can still hear her voice in my head saying, "there's my little girl" every time I would walk into her room. She was very loved and she will be missed dearly. May she rest in peace.
