Mrs. Gerlinda (Linda) Chevlekly, beloved wife of the late Eugene (Gene) Chevlekly, passed away peacefully at Bethany Calgary on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the age of 88 years. Linda is survived by her daughter, Loris (Darrell) Schuetzle; son, Ralph Chevlekly; granddaughter, Dana Wright (Luke Gorny); sisters-in-law, Lily and Marita as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Gene, Linda was predeceased by her son, Robert; parents, Albert and Elizabeth; brothers, Alfons and Kurt as well as her sister, Elizabeth (Joe). Linda was born in a small village in Germany on May 18, 1935. She was a young girl who grew up during WWII. Along with her family, Linda was constantly on the move to avoid the fighting until they were sponsored by a Canadian farmer in Taber, AB. There she, with her parents and three siblings, worked picking sugar beets to pay for their debt for immigration into Canada. It was here she meet Gene. Linda and Gene married on August 1st, 1953, when she was only 18 years old. Her family moved to Ontario around this time, but Linda stayed behind to begin her married life. Gene and Linda lived in the Lethbridge area. As Gene worked to become a baker, Linda looked after their three young children, Loris, Ralph and Robert. In 1963, Gene and Linda moved their young family to Medicine Hat where they started up “Gene’s Bakery” on Crescent Heights. They worked long and hard hours to make the business a success. They were very proud of their fresh baked goods and offered a variety of delicious pastries. After they sold the bakery, Linda worked downtown in the local dress shops as a sales associate but was more often leaned on as a fashion consultant as she had a flare for fashion. Linda enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, and was extremely proud of her only granddaughter, Dana.

Loris, Ralph and family,
We are truly sorry for your loss. Your mother's grace and strength were evident in everything she did. As a child growing up I enjoyed listening to stories of Aunt Linda from my mom and later in life from Aunt Lily. My few memories of your mom are of a kind Aunt who always made me feel special. Out thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
With love,
Rita Hoekstra and Marietta Jauernig
