It is with heavy hearts that family announce the passing of Alice Jeanette ‘Ellie’ Wenzel (nee Aasman). She passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday January 31, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Ellie is survived by her children, Ben (Laura) and Rachelle; daughter-in-law, Deb; grandchildren, Lee, Camara, Matt, Tyler, Alycia and Shanda as well as eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben as well as her son, Don. Ellie was born in Holland on September 29, 1943, and immigrated to Canada with her brothers and sisters in 1950. A Celebration of Ellie’s life will be held at the Living Hope Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain George Koopmans officiating. The service will be live streamed and may be viewed at medicinehatcrc.org Interment will take place prior to the church celebration. Those who wish to attend the interment should gather at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. to join the procession to Hillside Cemetery. The family would like to send a very special thank you to Dr. Datta, Dr. Ghazal and Dr. Claassen as well as a huge thank you to Sheila, Brenda and staff on 4W for your compassion and care.

    Our condolences to each one of you in the passing of your Mom, Oma and great Oma She seemed to look at life in a positive way despite the losses she experienced. Fun loving auntie Ellie.

    My sincere condolences to the family and extended families on the loss of Ellie. I will always remember her ever-present smile and her welcome every time I attended the Medicine Hat Christian Reformed Church. She was always so positive about life. Her infectious joy and laughter will be sorely missed!

    Aunt Ellie’s smile always lit up the room. She made people happier just by being there. She made everyone feel welcome and loved. Our heartfelt sympathy to her family.
    She will be missed but we will always remember how special she was.
