October 8, 1947 ~ April 10, 2022
Bruce John Smith, beloved husband of Clare, passed away in Medicine Hat on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the age of 74 years. Along with Clare, his beloved wife of 53 years, Bruce will be remembered by his children: daughter, Chantelle (Chris) Reid and children, Elizabeth (Pascal) and Michael (Rylie); daughter, Dannielle (Luc†) Riendeau and children, Lola, Lily, Dax and Lia; son, David John Smith and daughter-in-law, Travisty Smith and children, Billy John (Megan), Liam, Morris and Gillian; sisters, Jan (Blair) Maltby of Moncton, NB., Carol (Dave) Auterson of Courtney BC., and brother, Merton (Sylvia) Smith of Kensington, PEI.; lifetime friends, Bob and Joan Byers as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Carl John Henry Smith and Jacqueline Smith; brother, Gary Smith and son-in-law, Luc Riendeau. He was born in Edmonton and was a proud ‘Base Brat’. After serving 28 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Bruce retired in 1995 as a Master Warrant Officer; a position that he was very proud of achieving, CHIMO. In his retirement years, Bruce spent his time woodworking, trying new recipes and as an avid reader, he collected Reader’s Digest Condensed Novels, among many other authors. He could also be found on the dance floor with Clare, competing and teaching as members of the Lone Star Dancers. Time spent with family meant the most to Bruce whether it was having a BBQ at Echo Dale, fishing or just collected around the house playing games and visiting. Having a wealth of technical knowledge and skills, he always had something to teach or wisdom to pass on to his children and grandchildren; additionally he loved to share ‘Dad jokes’. He leaves a legacy of love that his family will forever cherish. Bruce’s life will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal funeral service.
