Edward Harry Francis Almond, beloved husband of the late Joy Almond, passed away with his daughters by his side on Thursday, September 9th, 2021. He was born in Lloydminster, SK on June 8, 1929, to a family of twelve children. During the war years he was schooled in a convent in Clandonald, AB making many memories and life-long friends. He worked as a telegraph operator and then on the oil rigs where an accident to his left hand led to retraining as a public health inspector. Returning to Lloydminster, he married Joy Laws on May 19,1955. They moved to Athabasca in 1956 to an inspector job he really enjoyed and was very proud of before retiring to Kelowna in 1987. In 1988, Joy had a brain aneurysm and Ed became her primary caregiver for the next 30 years. They moved to a cattle farm outside of Blackfoot, AB in 1990 before settling in Medicine Hat in 2003, but his heart was always on the farm. Ed was a man of many interests and talents including coaching hockey, coin collecting and woodworking. We were all proud to say, "My Dad can fix anything!" He had a sense of humour that never left him but most important was his great faith in God that sustained him through the years. Edward is survived by his children: Catherine (Aidan), Teresa (Perry) and Christopher (Patricia); grandchildren, Avice DeKelver (Devon), Aaron DeKelver (Jenna), Sydney Almond, Ethan Pelensky and Matisse Pelensky; brother, Wesley and sisters, Dorothy, Stella and Christina. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruby and Joseph Almond and Joy's parents, Elsie and Gerald Laws, four brothers, Joe, Fred, Ernest and David as well as three sisters, Agnes, Louise and Betty. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Francis Tran celebrant. The Family Tribute prior to Mass and the Funeral Mass will both be live-streamed. Those who cannot attend but wish to experience the Family Tribute and the Funeral Mass, may do so by visiting Cook Southland’s website and selecting the ‘View Broadcast’ button on the homepage. The Family tribute will start streaming at approximately 12:45 and the Funeral Mass will start streaming once the Family Tribute is finished. I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. Regardless of their age or health, it is hard to say goodbye to our parents. Now, he is happily with his greatest Joy.
Our sincere sympathy in the loss of your Father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Derek and Marie West.
Dear Cathy, Please accept my condolences on the death of your dear father. He was certainly a man of faith.
I will always remember you bringing him to Mass at St. Patrick's after your mom died. May he rest in peace
and may the songs of the angels bring him home before the face of God.
It's been a few years but I often would walk the path with your Dad. He would tell me stories of his time on the rigs and with the government. I was always amazed by his commitment to walk, even on the coldest days. My condolences to the family.
