Bruce and his family sadly announce the peaceful passing of Kathleen Lorraine Harty while at the River Ridge Senior’s Village in Medicine Hat on Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 71 years. Along with Bruce, Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Robert (Melanie), Neal (Lisa) and Daniel; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Jessica), Benjamin, Angelina, Stephanie, Cassidy and Emma; three great-grandchildren, Lucy, Sophia and Grace as well as four siblings, Gwen, Frank, David and Sharon. She was predeceased by her parents, Tony and Olive Pfefferle and John and Verne Leach; a brother, John as well as one grandchild, James. Kathleen was born on May 14, 1949, in Toronto, Ontario. Throughout her life-time, Kathleen lived in many different places before making Medicine Hat her home. She was a farm wife for many years and always worked very hard, especially when it came to picking rocks. Kathleen loved driving the tractor and enjoyed taking the boys with her each opportunity she had. She was the first to sign up for an adventure of any kind, and she especially enjoyed the outdoors and camping. She was dearly loved and will be fondly remembered for her cooking, laughter and the warmth of her smile. Due to COVID - 19 restrictions, the Funeral Celebration will be by invitation only. A Celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Terry Olson officiating. Those wishing to join the family virtually and experience Kathleen’s celebration are invited to watch via live-stream and may do so by visiting our website and selecting the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time. Family wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Home and River Ridge for the wonderful care Kathleen received. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to St. Joseph’s Home - Carmel Hospice, 156 - 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.

Dear family and friends of Kathleen,
I am terribly sorry for your loss, please accept my sincerest sympathy. I am a care provider at River Ridge who met Kathleen around 2 weeks ago when I first started working. Although I did not get very much time to care for Kathleen I could tell she was a very warm and loving woman by the way her eyes lit up whenever someone would enter her room. I had the privilege of assisting with feeding Kathleen where I had time to bond with her. She always listened to all of my stories with full attention. My fondest memory of Kathleen was when she first reached out to hold my hand as I was providing care. I remember feeling honored that I earned her trust and looking into her blue eyes and sensing her positive energy radiate onto me.
Thanks to the family for allowing myself and the staff at River Ridge to provide care to Kathleen. She will be missed dearly and I will remember her now and always.
