With heavy hearts the family of Marcel Leon Gendre, beloved husband of Patty Gendre and Dad to Jesse, announce his unexpected passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the age of 64 years. Marcel was born in Stettler, Alberta on May 6, 1956 and was raised on the family farm south of Erskine. He attended grade school in Erskine and graduated high school in Stettler. Marcel furthered his education at NAIT where he received his Chemical Technology Diploma and later achieved a 2nd Class Power Engineer ticket. On July 15, 1978, Marcel married Patty Ogle in Stettler and their marriage was blessed with a son, Jesse. Those who knew Marcel know that he was a kind, thoughtful and caring person. He had a strong positive attitude and always looked at things as they could be... not as they were. He loved to ride his motorcycle on the wide open roads and always looked forward to summer rides with his cousins. Marcel found much comfort in relaxing in his hot tub before retiring for the night. He had strong faith in the Lord and this was the time where he could reflect and talk to the Lord. He always said his greatest gifts in life was knowing his Lord and his little family. Marcel was always happiest when he was with his wife and son. He had a zest for life and always kept active whether he was skiing, swimming, playing baseball, racquetball, ping pong or driving his 98 Honda Accord that he put over 1 million km’s on! He loved the outdoors going for rides and loved to sit around bonfires and visit with his pals. He had a great memory and could recall historical dates, family history and he never forgot birthdays! Marcel was truly a unique individual who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his loving wife, Patty and his son, Jesse; his father, Leon Gendre; siblings, Lucille (Rick), Lillianne (Eugene), Bernadette (Don), Yvonne, Louis and Henri (Lisa). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Verna Ogle; sisters-in-law, Bev (Lyle), Judy (Mark), Alice (Jim); brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Kim), Dave (Wanda), Everett (Sherry) and numerous nieces and nephews. Marcel was predeceased by his mother, Rosemarie Gendre; father-in-law, Roy Ogle and brother-in-law, Dwayne Raddis. Due to Covid gathering restrictions, the Celebration of Marcel’s life will be private. The service will be live-streamed on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, beginning at 2:00 p.m. (MST). To support the family and experience the service, please visit www.cooksouthland.com and click the View Broadcast Button on the homepage at service time. Memorial donations in Marcel’s name may be made directly to the Medicine at & District Food Bank, 532 South Railway Street, SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2V6.
