It is with heavy hearts that the family of Tyler McKenzie Rae announce his passing on September 1, 2020, after a courageous and quiet battle with cancer. Tyler was born in Missoula, Montana, and while moving to Medicine Hat as a baby, Montana always held a special place in his heart. He spent every summer ripping it up on Flathead Lake, and later, asked Kim to marry him on the family dock under the magnificent stars.
True to his last day, Tyler was a fiercely loyal and kind friend. He treasured his many lifelong friends with all his heart. The first of these were made attending Vincent Massey and Crescent Heights High schools. Later, through sports and other interests, Tyler met a few more people that remained important to him. And then, along came the Monday Night Football crew, his true brothers. He treasured the frequent laughs, debates, bantering and above all respect. Tyler’s Monday night friends shared a bond beyond football pride and in the end, walked the hard walk beside him.
At the core of Tyler’s heart was his beloved family. His foundation: Mom, Dad, Gran, friend and sister Erica. His pride and joy was the family he built with Kim, Kassidy, Kobe and Kiera. Kassidy was his hope, Kobe his rock and Kiera his light. Each of Tyler’s children has inherited a special part of him - his quick wit, his deep loyalty and his humble wisdom. His love, belief and pride in his children will live on.
Kim and Tyler were best friends. They were drawn together by mutual respect, love and commitment to family. This remains and shall forever remain.
Tyler leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 21 years, Kim and three beautiful children, Kassidy, Kobe, and Kiera. Tyler also leaves his devoted mother, MaryEllen, his special friend and sister, Erica and family - husband Bob, Grace and Freddy Graham. He was also loved by his father-in-law, Tom; sister-in-law, Leanne and his brother-in-law, Brad (Janice, Haley, Chloe, and Brody) Herman. Tyler will also be remembered by his extended family.
He was predeceased by special people: Dad, Bill, Gran, Marian, and mother-in-law, Antonia.
A Private Celebration of Tyler’s life will be held in the coming days. Those wishing to remember Tyler may do so through a donation to the Medicine Hat College Foundation - Rattlers Athletics, 299 College Drive S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 3Y6.

I was fortunate enough last year to celebrate T Rae’s B-day with him and some friends at a Mavericks game. I sat beside Tyler and we had a great conversation of days gone by, I am so happy I had that opportunity. Unfortunately it was the last time I saw him, if I could go back in time to that day I would tell him how much I appreciated his friendship and that he was a great person. Rest In Peace my brother.

To Tyler's family:
Even though I'm still reasonably articulate, I know that my words will fall short expressing my sorrow for your loss. Let me, instead, share some remembrances of Tyler when he was a young boy.
I feel very fortunate and privileged to have known and worked with three generations of the Rae family. I particularly remember Tyler's family of orientation; - Bill, MaryEllen, Erica, and Fido. (Fido had his own wonderful do-house.)
Tyler was a well-mannered and polite boy. He showed wonderful consideration and respect to older people. When Wendy, my wife, became seriously ill in the mid 1980's, Tyler showed an empathy and understanding that went well beyond his age group. I truly believe that Tyler was gifted with these traits.
Tyler never lost these traits. Several years ago, I recall conversing with Tyler at the Medicine Hat YMCA. He was the same considerate and well mannered person who I had met during his childhood.
I also remember Tyler as being an outstanding athlete who played the game fairly and with modesty.
The Medicine Hat community has lost a good citizen. Please accept my sincere sympathies.

Oh Kim, I am so sad to hear of Tyler’s passing. He was a wonderful young man and it’s not fair that he had to leave you and your children at such a young age. I have many fond memories of Tyler when he worked with us at the school division. Breaks my heart to know that such a great person has lost the battle to cancer. Keep your memories close and he will always be with you. Stay strong and take care. 💕

Dear Kim and family and Mary Ellen,
My deepest sympathy to all of you at this tragic time. I love that photo of Tyler. He was a giant to me and had a heart to match. I cherish the time I spent with him in RCIA and the children receiving their sacraments. I know how much Kim loved him. Mary Ellen, I know how hard this is for you too as his proud mother. May Tyler Rest In Peace and May Our Lord cover all of you with peace and love.

To Tyler’s family, my deepest condolences. We lived near the Rae family and grew up as kids with Tyler and Erica. Tyler was like a big brother to me. He was a lot of fun, terrific athlete, and I always looked up to him.
I was fortunate to see him a few years ago at Erica and Bob’s. This brought back great stories to share with my family.
Thanks for everything you did Tyler.

The Entire Rae Family,
My heart goes out to all of you. I have many fond memories of Tyler. He was such a gifted athlete with so much talent. It was fun to watch him play in junior and senior high school and compete against him later. His athletic gift amazed me. Such a kind soul who gave so much to those that were a part of his life. Kim, I wish I still lived right around the corner to stop and help you out with anything. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

Kim, Erica, Mary Ellen & family,
We were so shocked & saddened to hear of Tyler’s passing. He was a fine boy & man, always congenial & interested in others. We didn’t see much of him in his teen years but we did travel to Oakville Ontario to watch him play volleyball. He made a good show of being happy to see his aunt, uncle & cousins. We will always remember him with great fondness. Sending our love & deepest condolences.

We were very shocked and saddened to hear of Tyler's passing. In our time spent with Tyler over the many years we knew of a super guy who had a zest for life - enjoying time with friends and especially his family. Our time spent with Tyler usually involved playing some volleyball and I was proud to be a Rattler with Tyler. Our deepest sympathies go out to Kim and the kids. Your loss will will ease in time, but please take time to remember all the great experiences that you had with your husband and father. God Bless.

Our families spent a lot of time together when we lived close to one another on Riverside. The four kids ran from one entertaining family yard and house to the other. The stories and laughs from that time are a part of family lore.
Tyler, as the eldest of the group, took his seniority and responsibility in stride. His calm demeanour and quick wit were hallmarks of his behaviour which continued as an adult.
Our son viewed Tyler as a model, and Tyler played whatever sport the younger one could manage.
We send our deepest condolences to all of the family. Tyler will be missed.
