Mrs. Ellen Marie Balmer, beloved wife of the late Mr. Thomas Sanderson Balmer II, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the age of 87 years. She is survived by her three sons, Russell (Laura), Gordon, James (Sandy) all of Medicine Hat; grandchildren, Neil, Erica, Coreen (Maarten), Thomas, Kevin, Scott (Coral), Jeremy (Alisha) and great- grandson, Ryder. She was predeceased by her parents, Russell and Cecilia Noble and husband, Tom. Ellen graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Medicine Hat General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked on the maternity ward for numerous years and later went on to be the head nurse in the recovery room at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital until her retirement in 1985. Ellen touched many lives with her grace and dignity as a Registered Nurse. In her retirement years she enjoyed golfing, quilting, reading, working with the Medicine Hat General Hospital School of Nurses Alumnae and spending time with family and friends. The Celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. If friends so desire, donations in Ellen’s memory may be made directly to the Medicine Hat S.P.C.A., 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, AB., T1A?8E8. A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery prior to the service.

Our sincere sympathy to all . We have many wonderful memories of your mother going back as far as the Purple Springs days . I (Bj) even played a piano solo at her wedding reception...Always enjoyed a visit with her here in Taber on many occasions and appreciated her kindness to Bruce's sister Cassie Sevalrud.
