Loraine Hart-Tongs

1960 - 2016

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Hart-Tongs(2016)
Loraine Norma Hart-Tongs, beloved wife of David Arthur Tongs, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, January 29, 2016, at the age of 55 years. She was born in Eastend, SK., and raised on the family farm north of Ravenscrag, SK. Loraine graduated from Eastend High School and furthered her education studying as a Health Care Aid at SIAST and received her RNBN at Medicine Hat College and University of Calgary, completing her COHN through Grant McEwan College.  She was extremely proud of her continued education efforts and achieved more than she ever thought possible.  She married the love of her life and soul mate, David Tongs on September 22, 2007.  Loraine’s faith life and spiritual connection was founded in the United Church in Shaunavon, SK.  Her nursing career began in the hospital then continued into long term care facilities.  With her background and knowledge, she taught first year nursing students at the Medicine Hat College for a number of years.  Loraine then accepted a position with the City of Medicine Hat as an Occupational Health Nurse where she continued her studies and received her COHN?designation, while continuing to work for the City until her passing.  Loraine enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, gardening and reading and most recently spending time with family and being a very active grandma. She loved her family and raising her kids alone and was always involved with helping the parent teacher association and hot lunch meals for school, as well as being a Girl Guide leader, Pathfinder leader and a Sunday school parent teacher.  Some of Loraine’s most memorable moments, were the birth of her children and watching them grow up, time spent with family and friends, finding her soul mate in Davey and the vacation with Mariann and Mike in Hawaii.  The challenges in Loraine’s life were many, but through her perseverance and putting the pieces together, she accepted it as an opportunity to learn and create stepping stones to improve her knowledge.  Loraine’s memory will be forever treasured in the hearts of her true love in her husband, Davey; children, Graham Hart and his children, Camille, Veronica, Presley; Christie (Jason) Lewis and their children, Kinley, Nixen and a little one on the way; Ron (Monica) Hart and their children, Rae, Parker, Vincent; sister, Mariann (Michael) Johnston and her nephew, Jesse (Vanessa) as well as all the extended family in the UK.  She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Norma Olson (nee Studer) as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Loraine’s Life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz and Pastor Bob Findley co-officiating.  Those wishing to pay their respects may do so beginning one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a donation in Loraine’s name to the Medicine Hat College Foundation, c/o Jennifer Kerslake, Development Officer, 299 College Drive SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta,  T1A 3Y6, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Graham, Christie, Ronald, Dave ( sorry we never have had the chance to meet you but we know how fond Lorraine was of you) and families. Cancer is one of the worst and unfair illnesses someone can get but it shows us how much our loved ones can be a warrior. Lorraine was very much a warrior in life and shall continue on in the after life as one. Lorraine was a good friend to all and was a great leader for her Girl Guides. She took everyone in like they were her own children and she will be remembered by everyone's lives that she touched. A very remarkable woman that we are proud to say that we had the chance to know. Take comfort in all the memories you have of her as they shall be what helps you along with the grief you will feel. We know that you have many precious memories. Also take comfort in all those around you as they all feel the pain of Lorraine's passing. Your mom will never be forgotten as many people cherished her; She did many great things while she was alive. Now you shall always be able to take her with you as she will watch over you all. Sorry we are not able to be there for the funeral but you are all in our thoughts, Nellie, Nels and Amber (LeBlanc) Nielson

We are so sorry to hear of Lorraine's illness and of her passing. In all our years of living in Shaunavon, we always knew her to be a kind, humble, gentle soul who loved her children dearly. She was always smiling and the twinkle in her eye was infectious. My association with her through dance and through bowling was always pleasurable and friendly. Graham, Christie, Ron, and your families, we know how much you've loved and appreciated your mom/grandma and how she has left a void that cannot be filled. Davey, we only met you once but your love for each other was evident and we can only imagine how you are missing her. Lorraine was a special person to many, and we will all feel her absence.
Our thoughts and condolences are with you all.
    Sincerely, Betty and Brian Cave

Deeply saddened to learn of Loraine's death. She was like a warm ray of sunshine and I treasure the memories I have of her. I am proud to have been a part of her early college experience at Medicine Hat and was privileged to support her in her struggle to meet the rigours of academic life while also feeling so committed to her children's welfare. She loved them very deeply. I consider myself blessed to have been one of many in attendance for Loraine and Davey's wedding and exchange of vows in beautiful Kin Coulee. Loraine was aglow and it was inspiring to see a couple so happy in their love of each other. Heaven has gained an angel, truly... I will never forget her laughter and enduring compassion for others. I am sorry that I cannot be there tomorrow to share these thoughts with her family but please know that my thoughts are with you...
    With sadness, Lee

You didn't have to know Loraine very well to feel her infectious loving heart and spirit! She would brighten up your day simply by sharing her amazing smile with those interested eyes! David, Graham, Christie, Ron and families, we extend our sincere sympathy. How blessed you have all been to have had the love and positive influence of such a remarkable woman and Mother. I admired Loraine's commitment and hard work to start a new career at that point in her life and often smiled when I imagined the difference she must have made in the lives of so many blessed patients. Marianne, I watched you greet the members of your family, each time they dropped by the bank. You reached for each other's hands with such genuine interest and love and it was truly an inspiring sight that I felt so blessed to witness time and time again. Although you didn't have those amazing parents or special sister for long, I can only imagine your family never lost a moment to express that heart warming love and affection. That kind of rich love stays with you forever. Out thoughts and prayers will remain with you all. Big hugs.
