Shane was a delightful, kindhearted person to know. In the last few years, we had great conversations about how wonderful it was to be back home with family and friends. You will be missed by many.

My deepest condolences to the Cockerill family. I worked with Shane for many years until my retirement a few years ago. Last year I returned for a couple of months to help out and was very fortunate to see Shane again. Shane was truly a bright light who always had a smile and a warm welcome to everyone who crossed his path. There was such sadness in my heart when I heard about his passing. I considered him my friend and will forever cherish all my time with him especially our last hugs. Shane was a wonderful man who touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to spend some time with Shane and to have been a very small part of his too short life. My prayers are with all who loved him. Memories will be kept until we meet again.

Thinking of you today. Shane will forever have a piece of my heart and live in my memories forever. I love you. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things too I will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My Life's been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one' touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.

Shane from the time we first met your warmth and sense of humor was infectious; there was a connection that could not be explained it just was. Your courage, kindness and warmth will live on forever in the lives of the people you loved and inspired. Rest peacefully and if you ever want to visit just let me know I will be watching and listening. Love always Pam

My deepest condolences to all of the Cockerill Family. When I lived in White Rock I was bestfriends with Kim and that is how I became great friends and roomate with Shane . He was our lopsided start on the tree always making us laugh. We would all get together to watch 90210 and eat Wendys he was so funny as I would bug him about eating all his fries first before his burger. I will always think of Shane as a kind , funny , crazy and most of all amazing friend. Shane will always be with us only now he is having a dance party and eating Wendys on the clouds.

Your magnetic spirit and infectious laugh will be with us all forever. As you hated to say goodbye....I say now, fly free in the clouds, Shane. To the entire Cockerill clan, I extent my deepest, heartfelt sympathies to you all. He was an amazing man who spent a lifetime reaching out to others before himself and he will forever be near each and every one of us. Until we meet again, my friend.

Shane was a very special man and I was lucky to have fun conversations with him over the phone and in person at work. His humour, willingness to help his co-workers and his ability to find snacks at the office (especially up on the 17th floor) will be something I carry with me.

My heart goes out to Keith and Vina and family, as well as all of his loved ones. It has been some time since I last saw Shane, but have fond memories due to the connections he had with all of his cousins and the Merridale community. When I think of him, I always seem to come back to seeing him doubled over in infectious laughter in the hallways of high school. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.

I’m so sad to hear the news. Even though we never got a chance to meet in person, you were the cheerful voice on the other side of the phone that would brighten my day whenever we spoke. I remember when you offered to come stay with me at the Calgary airport when my stopover flight was delayed because you didn’t want me to think badly of Alberta and you knew I'd been having a tough day. I appreciated your optimism and how much you cared about the work you did and those around you. You will be very missed. -Anna Maria

  29. So saddened by his passing:
    Feb 02, 2016 at 01:02 PM

So sorry to hear about Shane's passing. I was just thinking about him on Friday. He was a good friend through work but we hadn't talked in awhile. He always made me laugh and called me his "Jamaican Princess". I am shocked and saddened by his death. Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory provide comfort for tomorrow. Don't think of Shane as gone away - his journey's just begun, life holds so many facets - this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years (Unknown). Suzanne Webster
