Obituary - Katherine Gagley

Katherine Gagley

1921 - 2014

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Gagley(2014)
Mrs. Katherine (Kay) Gagley, beloved wife of the late Richard Lawrence Gagley, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at the age of 92 years. Katherine was born in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1921, a daughter to proud parents, Mathias and Anastasia Anton.  She was raised in rural Saskatchewan where she received her schooling.  Kay loved learning and this was evident as she was an exceptional student, excelling in Math, Science and English.  She also had an ear for music and studied piano in Regina for a period of time before moving to Medicine Hat.  It was in Medicine Hat that she met and later married Richard (Dick) Gagley, made a home and raised their family. Kay was a lady of faith and demonstrated her devotion to the Lord as an active member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the CWL and served on many parish committees throughout the years.  She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as going for walks, reading and making music playing the piano.  She had a keen interest in following the news and was astute when it came to current events.  Kay also had a lighter side and had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.  These were the qualities that made her who she was - a nurturing mother and grandmother, loving wife and dear friend.  Kay will be remembered by her children, daughter, Lois Gagley; daughter, Diane Gagley (Rick Kanik) and their children, Laura and Julia;  daughter, Rita Barrie and her children, Richard and Melissa; son, Rick Gagley and his children, Sheldon (Jen), and April (Brandt) and their children, (Rylie, Madison and Brooklyn).  Kay is also survived by her sister, Ida (Art) Ziebart and a brother, Ron (Corinne) Anton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Dick; parents, Matt and Annie Anton and sisters, Margaret Soehn and Rose Black.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Home - Carmel Hospice, 156 - 3rd Street N.E., Medicine Hat, today, Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Alphonse Narisetty celebrant.  Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery with a reception to follow in the Cook Southland Reception Facility.  The family wish to express their gratitude to the staff of Valleyview for their compassion and kindness in caring for Kay.  Memorial donations in Kay’s name may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 6007 - 1 A Street S.W., Calgary Alberta, T2H 0G5 or to the Malala Fund, 1201 Connecticut Ave. N.W., Suite 300, Washington, DC, 20036.

Dear Rita, and family. Sorry to read about the loss of your Mom. I remember when your Mom would accompany us on the organ singing at weddings. She was such a nice lady. That seems so long ago now. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. Jean Nitchke (Miller)
