Phyllis Nowicki

1919 - 2008

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Nowicki(2008)

Mrs. Phyllis Alberta Nowicki, beloved wife of the late Mr. Norman Nowicki, passed away in Medicine Hat on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the age of 88 years. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and best friend, Elaine (Tony) Stroh; eight grandchildren and their families, Tim Stroh and his daughter, Ashley; Andy (Nicole) Stroh and their daughters, Kyla and Madison; Mike (Tina) Stroh and their children, Kayla, Taylor & Stephanie; Melisa (Eric Hjartarson) Stroh and their children, Ryan and Kellan; Krista (Jeff) Dobson and their son, Clinton; Blaine (Jerri) Nowicki and their son, Owen; Blair Nowicki and Boyd Nowicki. Phyllis is also survived by her good friend and sister-in-law, Doreen (Garnet) Goerlitz and brother-in-law, Jess Nowicki. Along with her husband Norman, Phyllis was predeceased by a son, Cliff Nowicki; parents, Robert and Caroline Berg as well as two sisters, Ruby McCallum and Junette Potter. Phyllis was born in Medicine Hat on November 1, 1919. She was raised in Suffield and lived the majority of her life there. Phyllis married Norman Nowicki in 1939, and worked with him keeping the books for his Imperial Garage and his construction and trucking business. She enjoyed taking shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughters. She also enjoyed the many years she curled in Ralston. Her favorite quiet activities were reading and crossword puzzles. However, these paled in comparison to her love of nature, pets and animals of all kinds. As evidenced through her selfless, caring nature, Phyllis was always willing to provide a home for a stray. She also spent her whole life taking care of her family, and never expected anything in return. Phyllis cared for her crippled mother, her sister, and her husband when he was ill. Everyone will remember her positive nature and her kind words. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the SPCA, 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 8E8 or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 124, 430 - 6 Avenue S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2S8.
