Elmer Nunweiler

1930 - 2004

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Nunweiler(2004)

Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather Mr. Elmer Nunweiler, beloved husband of 52 years to Mrs. Irene Nunweiler of Bassano, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, May 10, 2004, at the age of 74 years. Elmer was born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1930, a son to Anton and Magdalena Nunweiler. He married Irene Bredy on December 14, 1951. Shortly after, he began working on road construction in Mantario and Acadia Valley. In 1960, Elmer started working in the oil field in Buffalo, Alberta. In 1968, he moved to Medicine Hat where he was employed with Alberta Eastern Oil & Gas which later became Ocelot. Elmer retired from Ocelot in 1986. He and Irene made a move to Bassano in September of 1993. Elmer always wanted an orchard, so he planted all the fruit trees he wanted. This year the fruit trees were in full bloom. Other interests included fishing, hunting in his earlier years and carpentry. An achievement he and his family were so proud of was the boat (pictured above) that he built with his own two hands. That boat provided many hours fun and family time. Besides Irene, his wife of 52 years, Elmer will be remembered by his children, Lonnie (Rene) and their children, Russell and Audrey of Valemount; Darryl (Brenda) and their children, Amber, Michelle and Crystal of Medicine Hat; Blaine (Carol) and their sons, Cody and Brad of Hanna; Mona (Ken) Karol and their children Ashley, Ellen and Stuart; a brother, Vernon and an adopted sister, Shirley Keller as well as many nieces and nephews. Elmer was predeceased by his parents Anton and Magdalena Nunweiler. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Monday, May 17, 2004, from 12 noon to 12:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Loren Hosfield officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Elmer's name may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29th Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2 or a donation may be made by Telephone: 1-403-944-2433.
