It is with great sorrow we announce the quiet passing of Gwenith (Gwen) May Fode, beloved wife of John Fode, on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at the age of 65 years. Gwen also leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Cory (Bernice) Fode, Jay Fode (Pam); three grandchildren, Kyle, Cole and Jadyn Fode; her mother Gwen Park; mother-in-law, Pauline Fode; three sisters, Jerry Olsen, Peggy (Kevin) Kelly, Kim (Dean) Osgood; her sisters children, Robyn Sykes (Dan), Tami Oliphant (Mike), Jacki Taunton (David), Jacqueline and Audra Osgood; brothers-in-law, Ted (Velma), Frank (Shirley) Fode; sisters-in-law, Valerie (Barry) Boyd and Mary Fode, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Gwen was predeceased by her father, Jack Park; father-in-law, Carl Fode, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Gwen met the love of her life John in 1952. She graduated Medicine Hat High School in 1959 and entered the Medicine Hat Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1962 with the Obstetrical Nursing Award. Her career included the Maternity ward at the Regional Hospital, Insurance Work, a local doctor's office and hearing and vision testing for large companies. Gwen was employed by Canadian Fertilizers Company as company nurse. She entered a pilot program for Occupational Health & Safety Nursing, graduating in 1991. Gwen worked at C.F. for twenty years, retiring in August 2006. Gwen was actively involved in her community. She was a Job's Daughter where she held the office of Honoured Queen. She taught piano lessons, sang in her church choir, taught and coordinated Sunday School, led the Youth Group and acted on the Vestry for many years. Gwen instructed C.P.R. and First Aid. She was also a member of the Emergency Response Team, and worked with the Environmental Committee at C.F. Gwen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She held her family in high esteem and had a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren who constantly kept her smiling. Gwen found great solace in her garden as well as traveling throughout the seasons, camping, skiing, walking, reading, music and quiet contemplation. Gwen had exemplary qualities and used them to enrich the lives of others. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, February 2, 2007, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at All-Saints Anglican Church, 606 - 12 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Ronda Ploughman officiating and Dr. David Carter co-officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to The Medicine Hat Cancer Clinic, 666 - 5 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, AB., T1A 4H6.
