Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Franzen(2008)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, dad, and poppa, Robert (Chico) Franzen. Robert (Bob) passed away peacefully on October 13, 2008 at the age of 63, after a truly courageous battle with cancer. Bob is leaving behind his wife, Patty; his daughter, Cindy (Danny) and their children, Jordan, Riley and Kaylin Orr; Norm (Holly) and their children, Madison, McKenna, Morgan and Marlee Franzen. He is also survived by his mother, Pauline Dozorec and step-father, Mike Dozorec; a brother, Carl (Hilde) Franzen and a sister, Freida (Gary) Purcha as well as Patty's brothers and sisters and all his nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his father, Bill; his son, Bobby; Patty's parents, Marie and Norman Vair as well as a brother-in-law, Jim Vair. Bob was born on August 6, 1945 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, to Pauline and Bill Franzen. He and Patty were married on July 1, 1967 and was soon followed by the birth of their children. Bob worked in the oilfield business for well over 30 years in various capacities, most of those years spent at Joyline Transport. 'Chico' was well known to many in the oilfield and will be missed for his spirited disposition. Bob loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting or camping with his family. He was very proud of his family, and loved them dearly as they did him. Bob truly loved his family and loved being Poppa to his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching Norm play hockey, and when Cindy was little, playing her accordion. Bob and Patty enjoyed visiting the various places that Cindy and Danny resided and were able to experience all the unique sites they visited in Ontario and B.C.. This past summer Bob was able to get out to the lake, and spend time with Norm and his family, boating. He got an opportunity to fish one last time with his son. Chico's life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Columbarium placement will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Robert's name may be made directly to the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, (6 West), 666 - 5th Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4H6.
