Constance Doreen Dodie Friesen

1932 - 2011

Mrs. Constance Doreen ‘Dodie’ Friesen, beloved wife of William ‘Bill’ Friesen, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the age of 78 years. Dodie was born and raised in Medicine Hat and later, along with her family, moved to Redcliff. She married Bill on April 14, 1953, at the Redcliff Anglican Church. In her younger years, Dodie started working at the Redcliff Potteries then the Glass Factory. She owned and operated Star Light Cafe on the highway in Redcliff for many years. After retiring from work, Dodie and Bill loved to go camping on weekends. In 1985, Dodie and her cousin, Chere, took her mother, Mary back home to Pontefract, England to visit with family. She had a beautiful voice and it showed through her lovely singing. Dodie also loved to play darts and for many years she belonged to the Redcliff Legion Branch #6. She always had a beautiful garden and enjoyed growing flowers very much. Dodie was a great one for family gatherings, whether it was having everyone over in the summer or winter hosting at their home. Bill and Dodie had their “boys”... Charlie and Shane their two dogs. Dodie will forever be treasured in the hearts of her family, husband, Bill; her brother, Alfred “Fred” Dube (Mary) with their families, Myles (Gaylene), Brenda, Wendy (Tim), Rene along with their children as well as numerous cousins, including Aunt Irene Tonks. Dodie’s two caregivers were very special to her; niece, Wendy Price and cousin, Chere Dueck. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred “Fred” and Mary Dube. A celebration of Dodie’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dodie’s name may be made directly to the CNIB, #102, 520 - 2 Street S.E. Medicine Hat, AB.
