Obituary - Mildred Dodd

Mrs. Mildred Aleen Dodd, beloved wife of Mr. Basil Rodney Dodd of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the age of 76 years. Mildred was born on December 20, 1927 in Medicine Hat, a daughter to Howard Burton and Mamie Grace Brigham. She moved to Winnipeg in 1948 and gained employment with Manitoba Telephone. In 1951, she moved to Halifax with her young son, Ross and her first husband. Following her separation, she moved to Ontario where she met and later married Basil Dodd on December 20, 1958. hey first resided in Mississauga where Millie worked as a bookkeeper. On February 7, 1964, she gave birth to a baby boy, Howard Arthur, and became a "stay at home mom'. As he grew, she became involved with his activities in Cubs, Scouts and taught Sunday School at her church. Millie was an active supporter in Canadian politics. She raised a strong voice for the political party she believed in and that voice was heard. Millie became well known in the political scene in Ontario as she provided a sturdy foundation for her party. In 1983, she moved to Oshawa and started her own business as a bookkeeper. In the early 90's she was diagnosed with osteoporosis and retired from bookkeeping in 1993. At this time she became active in setting up osteoporosis chapters in neighboring communities of Oshawa. Millie began having feelings for "home', and in 1998, moved back to Medicine Hat where she was raised. They purchased a house on the same street that Millie grew up on. She was very proud of her home and the garden she tended to. As her health failed, many related complications led to her inability to function as she once did. On July 26 of this year, Millie was hospitalized and remained until the time of her passing. She is survived by her husband, Basil Rodney Dodd of Medicine Hat; sons, Ross Dodd and Howard Arthur Dodd of Medicine Hat and a granddaughter, Victoria Dodd; a brother, Howard Brigham of Medicine Hat; two sisters, Mamie Blangy of Creston, B.C. and Laura Boretsky of Scarborough, Ontario as well as many nieces and nephews. Millie was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Mamie Brigham. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
