It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved father and grandfather, Eugene (Gene) DeGagne. Dad peacefully went home to the Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Dad was born on September 26, 1921 in LaBroquerie, Manitoba, a son to Louis and Georgianna DeGagne. His early life on the prairies centered around family, farming, working in lumber camps and as a sous chef with CNR. In 1952 he moved to Medicine Hat to start his family and business known as Genes Custom Painting. His hard work ethic, his personal integrity and commitment to his family and community made him a success in all aspects of his life. His love of the outdoors, his gracious hospitality and his uncanny ability to sense where he was needed are all part of his legacy to us. Family was the core of his being and he nurtured them well. We will miss him always, always and love him forever. He is survived by a daughter, Mona (Brian) Heller and their children, Geoffrey and Mason of Langley, B.C.; a son, Maurice (Janet) DeGagne and their children, Claire (Dominic), Marie, Philip and Jeanne of Medicine Hat; a daughter, Michelle (John) Beattie of Lethbridge; a son, Rene DeGagne and his children Danna and Emma of Calgary; and a daughter Reanne DeGagne of Calgary; the mother of his children, Denise DeGagne; a sister, Olive LaBrosse of Calgary; three sisters-in-law, Simone DeGagne of Saskatoon, Aurore DeGagne of Winnipeg and Elizabeth (Elly) DeGagne of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Eugene was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Georgianna DeGagne and his brothers and sisters, Edmond, William, Louis, Louise, Albert, Phillipe, Pierre, Marie, Emma, Ernest and Emile. Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with the Very Reverend Father Daniel Stevenot celebrant.
