Mrs. Florence "Flo" Jean Dale (nee MacLeod) passed away at The Meadowlands in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Flo was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1916. At an early age she moved to Medicine Hat where she spent most of her life. She received all of her education in Medicine Hat and graduated with her R.N. from the Medicine Hat Hospital with a Gold Medal in surgical nursing. During the last war she served as a Lieutenant Nursing Sister in Gander, Nfld. After the war, her duties took her to Vancouver, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills where she spent 8 years in a specialized Eye Clinic. Flo returned to Medicine Hat and continued with her nursing career with the Medicine Hat Health Unit. This provided the opportunity to travel extensively to the country dispensing medical care to newborns, school children and adults. She was a very active member of Westminster United Church and generously donated several stained glass windows in memory of her mother, Annie and her brother, Hector. Flo leaves to cherish her memory, a cousin, Ruthie Elford (nee Jackson); her nieces Lynne Anne Herman and Judy (Jack) Simmonds as well as many grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many other friends and colleagues in the nursing community, the Artists Club, Westminster United Church and her most recent family, the residents and staff at the Meadowlands Retirement Residence. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and John MacLeod; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Jim) Deering; her brother, Hector and a cousin Alex Jack; nephews, Ron Deering, Mac Deering and Chester Herman; a great nephew, Robin Deering and a great niece, Lori Deering. A Graveside Service will be held in honour of Flo at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Flo's name may be made directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Association, 130-6101 1A Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2H 0G5.
