Mrs. Melba Deering, beloved wife of the late Mr. Herbert Peter Deering, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Melba leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Barry (Edna) Deering and family, Tobi (Cameron) Kemp, and Randall (Susan) Deering and daughters, Kathy and Mandy. She is also survived by a brother, Ray (Emma) Yanke and his family; a sister, Linda (Larry) Weiss and her family; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Deering, Nellie Deering and Rosa Lehr as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Christof and Pauline Yanke; a son, Darrell and most of her in-laws. Melba, or Nana as she was affectionately called, loved and excelled in her role as a grandmother. She was extremely proficient in house design and construction, sewing, embroidery, hardinger, quilting, gardening, cooking, baking and she dabbled in drawing and painting. She will be remembered by many friends and acquaintances as the friendly, efficient cashier at the Co-op Store. A Commemorative Ceremony in Melba's honour, will be held at the Elks Lodge, 305 - 3rd Street N.W., Medicine Hat on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Diane Beach officiating. Nana will be laid to rest beside her husband at a private family interment at Hillside Cemetery earlier this day. If friends so desire, those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy by means of a donation may do so to an organization of their choosing.
