Obituary - Violet Dorge (nee Goldie)

Mrs. Violet Alvera Dorge (nee Goldie) passed away quietly while in the comfort of her home on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the age of 85 years. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Gordon (Pam) Dorge of Pincher Creek and one daughter, Lorraine (Larry) Lozo of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Jodi Bond, Darren (Linda) Dorge, Lori Lozo and Leanne (Sean) McGillis as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1995; her parents, John and Helen Goldie; brothers, John and Tom and a sister, Catherine. Violet was born on the family farm in southern Saskatchewan, where she was raised and then met her husband, George. Vi and George lived in Thompkins, Saskatchewan for many years. This was home and was the place their children were born. Later in 1948, the family moved to Fort Macleod and then to Medicine Hat in the '60's, where she resided until her death. Vi worked for many years in the food industry and in the motel and private cleaning services. Mom was always very passionate about her work and expected it to be perfect, a trait in which she instilled in her family. Violet was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always put her children first and foremost above anything else. Mom loved to bowl when she was younger and always enjoyed camping and fishing with George and her family. She also liked to watch sports especially curling and baseball. Vi became an avid Blue Jays fan and knew most of the players by name! The memories she left behind will be deeply cherished by her family and friends. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Monday, March 10, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to the funeral service. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. With Funeral Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.
