Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Duxbury(September 17, 2010)

The family of Mollie Victoria Duxbury are deeply sorry to announce her passing which occurred on Friday, September 17, 2010. This gentle, loving woman has joined the love of her life, Frank Duxbury, who has been waiting ten years for her to join him in eternity. Mollie Hartell entered this world on a homestead near Turner Valley to her parents, John and Mollie Hartell. She loved growing up on the farm with her three sisters, Dot, Jean and Vi, and really enjoyed horseback riding. As a young woman, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force WD (Women’s Division) and was stationed in Gander, Newfoundland as well as Charlottetown, PEI. The women were banded to contribute to wartime
operational duties to cover jobs for the men needed for combat and training duties. Their motto was “We Serve That Men May Fly”. During this time, Mollie met the young man she would love the rest of her life, Frank Duxbury from Medicine Hat. After disbanding, she went back to the farm in Turner Valley to help out while waiting for her marriage in August 1947. Frank and Mollie settled in Medicine Hat to raise their family of five children. Mollie nurtured her children and husband as well as her passion for flowers and the church. She was proud of her service time and proclaimed this by joining the Ex-Service Women’s Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. Mollie was a gentle soul and a loving woman to everyone that knew her. She was predeceased by her parents, John F. Hartell and Mollie (Brechin) Hartell; her husband, Frank and one sister, Violet Gilchrist. Mollie is survived by her children, Darlene Duxbury, Glen (Carol) Duxbury, David (Linda) Duxbury, Ken (Lori) Duxbury and Mary (Lonnie) Hogan. She loved the arrival of each of her grandchildren, Steven Miller, Cheryl (Jim) Christ, Victoria and fiancé Adam Jones, Robert Hogan, Stephanie Duxbury and Michael Diggle, Sarah Hogan (Jason Vanderhart) and Lindsey Duxbury. Mollie was thrilled when she finally had a great- granddaughter, Sydney Diggle. She is also survived by her sisters, Dot Davis and Jean Feddersen; sister-in-law, Marg Duxbury and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. A Celebration of Mollie’s life will be held at the Riverside Presbyterian Church, 110 - 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Diane Beach officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Arthritis Society, 200, 1301 - 8 Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2R 1B7.
