While in the presence of his family, Walter Crockford passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 20, 2007 at the age of 83 years. Walter was born on March 18, 1924 in Finns Lake area of Alberta. Walter was predeceased by the mother of his children, Florence Lily Crockford; a son, James (Jimmy) Crockford as well as brothers, Raymond, Leonard, Jack, Cecil, Rodney, Colin Crockford and sisters, Cecily Priest and Caroline Unger Cowan. Walter is survived by his children, Donna (Glen) West of Consul, Saskatchewan, Tom Crockford and Tim (Catherine) Crockford of Medicine Hat; step-son, Trevor (Monica) Brown of Coquitlam, B.C.; one sister, Rhoda Bain of Medicine Hat; sisters-in-law, Alice Crockford and Bev Crockford of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Brian (Brenda) Brown, Debbie (Todd) Thomson, Natasha (Michael) Banks, January West and Matthew Crockford; great-grandchildren Tara Brown, Brandon and Ashley Thomson, Dawson and Addison Banks as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Walter spent 3 years with the Regina Rifles Regiment in WW2. Upon his return he was a self-employed gravel trucker and then went on to employment with Soo Security Motorways, Suffield Dept. of National Defence, finally retiring from the City of Medicine Hat in 1984. His many retirement hobbies included visiting with friends, playing cards and obtaining materials for his many collections. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, August 23, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. David Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
