Norma Rosina Casselman passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with her beloved husband, Ernest J. Casselman by her side on Friday, October 17, 2008, at the age of 77 years. Along with her loving husband of over 50 years, Norma's memory will be cherished by three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews including Dixie (Rod) Redmond and their two children, Joshua and Kaleb, as well as numerous cousins and other extended family. She was predeceased by one sister, Francis. Norma Rosina Casselman was born to Art and Velma Patterson in Wainwright, AB., on July 11, 1931. She attended Heath School (a three mile walk) for many of her first nine years. She lived in the Dormitory while attending Wainwright School through grades 10, 11 and 12. After graduating, she attended the Vermilion School of Agriculture for one year before moving on to the University of Alberta where she received her Teaching Certificate. After a short time of teaching at a small rural area school near Wainwright, she moved on to teach for two years at Chauvin, AB. Norma later moved back to Wainwright where she taught for twelve years before moving to Medicine Hat in 1968. She accepted a teaching position at Crescent Heights High School and enjoyed her time there until retiring in 1989. One of her passions outside of teaching included Round Dancing with the Carousel Club in Yuma, Arizona. Norma loved the farm, her flower garden and her church where she was recognized as a long-time member. Her loving nature was evident through the emotional support she provided to many as a volunteer with the Medicine Hat Palliative Care Society. A Celebration of Norma's life will be held at All-Saints Anglican Church, 606 - 12 Street S.W., on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Ronda Ploughman officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Medicine Hat Cancer Clinic or to the Medicine Hat Palliative Care Society at 666 - 5 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6.
