With sadness the family of Maxine Elizabeth Charlton, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Maxine was born on June 30, 1923 in Eston, Saskatchewan, a daughter to Roy and Katherine Howard. She was raised on a farm east of Eston in the community of Richlea. Maxine received her schooling in Richlea at Penkill. In her mid twenties, she moved east to Toronto and then Oshawa. In 1957 she married Gordon Charlton. They had two children, Jerry was born in 1959 and Sharon in 1960. She was also blessed with one granddaughter, her pride and joy, Janine born to Sharon in 1982. In 1974, she moved back to Eston following her divorce. Maxine was a caring person which naturally led her to the career of caring for the elderly. Her occupation took her to Kindersley, Swift Current, Saskatoon and later to Medicine Hat. Since 1999, she resided with her daughter due to failing health. Maxine loved animals, especially cats and dogs and had many special pets throughout her life. Maxine was a wonderful lady and will be missed by her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her son, Jerry; daughter, Sharon; granddaughter, Janine; a sister, Marion Belbin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Maxine was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Katherine Howard; sister, Ruth Aitken; two brothers-in-law, Jack Aitken and Frank Belbin. To honour Maxine's life, a private service will be held in Eston, Saskatchewan. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Maxine's name may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4700, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta, T6E 9Z9 or to the S.P.C.A., 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 8E8.
