Gladys Chaboyer

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel - Chaboyer(2009)

Mrs. Gladys Jean "Mickey" Chaboyer, beloved wife of the late G.A. "Bud" Chaboyer, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Gladys "Mickey" was born on the family farm near Rossendale, Manitoba on January 9, 1927, one of eleven children born to Lawrence and Jenny McIntosh. While living with her sister, she attended high school in Portage la Prairie. Following graduation, she moved to Edmonton where she was employed with Singer Sewing Machines. She met her future husband in Portage la Prairie and was later married in Medicine Hat in 1953. Medicine Hat became home and where they raised their children. Mickey will be remembered as the friendly lady who worked as the Catalogue Sales Manager at Sears. Her career spanned over 32 years and during that time, she met many wonderful people and developed lasting friendships. Those friendships were often rekindled when she went shopping as she made sure to stop and visit with people she knew - and she knew many! Family was special to her and she held a special place in her heart for her grandson, Jesse - she simply adored him. Mickey also enjoyed going to rodeos to watch her son, Mark participate in the roping events. This also meant visiting time with friends as they often drove to nearby locations. In recent years, she was able to spend valuable time with her daughter, Chauna. Mickey's memory will be cherished by her daughter, Chauna (Bob) Baron and grandson, Jesse (Christine); son, Mark (Lynn) Chaboyer; two brothers, Alan and Barry McIntosh and two sisters, Blanche Begg and Edna Black as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband G.A. "Bud" Chaboyer in 1989; sisters, Lorna Rau, Barbara Ferris and Mae James; and brothers, Preston, Hilton and Bill McIntosh. A Celebration in Honour of Mickey's life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Private interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Mickey's name may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4700, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta T6E 9Z9.
