Mr. Norman Ronald Cherry passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving wife, Linda and family by his side on Friday, March 18, 2011, at the age of 87 years. Along with Linda, Norm’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of his two children and their families: son, Keith (Laurie) and Keith’s four children, Derek (Julie) and their children Jaden and Kiara; Renee (Jamie) and their children Alysha and Adam; Michelle and her son,Sebastian; Lesley (Ken) and their children Paige and Danika, as well as Lesley and Michelle’s mother, Tammy; daughter, Arleen (Harvey) and children Holly and Shaun; three sisters-in-law, Kay, Leona and Grace (Robert); brother-in-law, Glen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Agnes; eldest brother, Douglas; twin brother, Arthur; sister, Audrey and her husband, Dale; brother-in-law, John and sister-in-law, Louise. Norm was born in North Vancouver, BC on December 17, 1923. He received his education in Surrey, BC before joining the military at the age of 19. Following his military service, Norm worked in the construction industry for many years. In his later years, he worked for the Public School Board as a custodian, a job he enjoyed until his retirement in the mid eighty’s. After retiring, Norm and Linda moved to St. Paul, and then Vegreville before settling in Medicine Hat, AB, having made numerous wonderful friends along their way. It was at the Easter Vigil in 1986 that Norman was baptized into the Catholic Church. His faith was very important to him, and he dedicated countless hours and effort into bettering our community through his involvement with the Knights of Columbus. Vigil Prayers will be recited at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, Norm’s memory may be honoured through the offering of Masses at the Church or by supporting your local Food Bank.
